Classic Car Overview

1990 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible For consignment, a 1990 Chevrolet Corvette convertible with a title verified 75,225 actual miles. It didnt take Chevy long to create a convertible from the C4, in fact, they had probably planned it all along when it was first released in 1986. With the top down, the car takes on a unique shape but retains its iconic recognizability. Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area. Exterior In one of the more popular Corvette colors, Black drapes this sports car and is topped by a matching canvas soft top. With the top down, the straight shouldered Vette carries the line back to the decklid, the drops dramatically over the vertical rear fascia. Side gills blend ghost like into the front fenders, while marker lights front and rear create the only contrast to this black wedge. Of course, there are the 17-inch Corvette wheels keep things grounded, which are directional and when you take this car home, switch the rear wheels as theyre currently facing the wrong way, a common error. This would be the last year for the inset driving lights as they would become flush with the front bumper in 1991, but the original C4 design still looks good and of course, the four red circles in back and quad exhaust never get old or dated looking! Although we could find no scratches or dents on the exterior, the paint could use some detailing to bring out the potential of the two stage black, especially on horizontal surfaces. Interior Plastic and black vinyl are used to construct the ergonomic door panels and orange lettering is used on their switchgear, a common theme for C4s. There is some patina on the panels, particularly on plastic parts. Corvette seats are always the topic of contention but we like the C4 seats, here in black leather with some compression and minor wear on the drivers chair while the passengers is in nice condition. Orange letters appear on the gear indicator next to the leather wrapped handle of the automatic shifter in the center console which shows some evidence of use. The center console houses the climate control panel and an aftermarket AM/FM/CD unit under a data center with a screen. Retaining its shape and firmness, the leather wrapped steering wheel fronts an arching dash, backlit in orange with orange needles displaying five bits of information in addition to the center digital display. Low pile black carpet floods the floor and small cargo area where we also find an Alpine amplifier. Drivetrain Nice conditions are found under the forward opening hood, housing a 5.7 liter L98 V8 rated at 245 horsepower and fueled through electronic fuel injection. It is backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission routing horsepower and grunt-like torque back to the 2.73 gears within the limited slip axle. Undercarriage No complaints under here either as were met with a clean underside with some expected surface rust and a drop or two of residual oil. Dual exhaust runs through stock style mufflers which send out two tailpipes to polished tips on each side. There are no catalytic converters on the car. Power disc brakes are on all four wheels with Baer brand occupying the front. Four wheel independent suspension with transverse leaf springs is also employed at both ends. Drive-Ability After driving post war cars and Tri-fives all week, its a long drop to the Corvette seats, but a welcoming position normally reserved for race car drivers and wanna be racers. Thats what the Vette is all about and were thrilled that the 5.7 comes to life with a healthy exhaust note and an eager spring into motion once we drop it to D. Now, were on old tires and the rears are worn to the wear bars, so we take it easy even as this car begs to be pegged. It still handles well and tracks straight and we take note of the power locks and tachometer not working, just as all other functions on the car work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. There are many C4 lovers among us and for good reason. They still represent a strong value in the collector and performance car market and theres lots of aftermarket support and of course, enthusiast clubs out there to support your new ride. Unless youre already there, this car will not turn you into a retiree who wears New Balance sneakers and stonewash blue jean shorts. These make great first cars, regardless of your fashion choices.
