Classic Car Overview
Vehicle Description
1989 Mercedes-Benz
This 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SL roadster and its unmistakable sought after red exterior, is an absolute head turner. I started restoring the beauty, but decided to tackle my Rolls Royce instead.
EXTERIOR
Racing red!. The low, wide stance of the 560SL not only looks surefooted and stable but translates to a ride that shares these descriptives. Dual headlights surrounded by a reflective bezel and accented by a winged marker lights flank a grille with soft corner and the requisite Mercedes star. On the bumper, chrome is accompanied by black structural pieces and bumperettes front and rear, connected visually by the side panel trim just below the waistline. Wheel opening in the back drape over the rear tires while the fronts are fully exposed and together with the laser straight shoulder line results in a strong and sleek profile, especially with the top down.
INTERIOR
Tan/Cream leather side panels provide a striking contrast to the racing red, as are the newly reupholstered beige bucket seats, arguably some of the best in the business for this class of car during this period. Confidence inducing controls start with the firm steering wheel on a thick column and followed by three clear gauges informing nine pieces of data for the driver and fourteen more with the row of indicator lights below. Pristine burlwood backs the center stack which houses the original Becker stereo and simple climate controls with storage tray below.
DRIVETRAIN
Popping the hood reveals a clean driver quality presentation of the 5.6 liter SOHC V8 rated at a respectable 227 horsepower. Electronic fuel injection vaporizes the petrol while a 4-speed automatic transmission transfers power to the rear axle and 2.47 gears. Equipped with power disc brakes front and rear.
CONDITION
Powerful air conditioning. In the middle of complete restoration with new uninstalled soft top, newly upholstered seats, new shifter burlwood panel. Powerful engine can be smoother. Brand new car cover. New hard plastic dash sun protector. Sealable slim cracks on the dash (I have a guy here in LA who can replace the dash for $1200).
