Vehicle Overview

Here is a modified 1989 Ford Mustang LX finished in Scarlet Red, with a Smoke Grey interior. The vehicle originally came from North Carolina, where a 347 stroker engine was installed after the original owner paid off the lien on the car. I purchased the car in 2021 and proceeded with a series of upgrades, along with a refresh of the engine and interior.

List of modifications:
- 5-lug conversion with Baer 6-piston disk brakes in front, and Mustang Cobra disk brakes in the rear
- SVE 5-lug pony-style wheels (245 in front, 275 rear tread width)
- SN95 remanufactured front spindles
- Moser 31-spline rear axles
- LMR rear disk brake conversion kit
- LMR rear e-brake adapter kit (emergency brake works)
- Willwood adjustable brake proportioning valve
- SVE 3-row aluminum radiator
- LMR Contour electric fan kit with Dakota Digital Bluetooth-enabled controller
- 1-inch phenolic spacer beneath factory intake plenum
- Ford Motorsport valve covers
- Valve adjustment and head cover gasket replacement performed by JBA Racing in San Diego
- Steeda TriAx short-throw shifter with Hurst handle and trim cover
- 3.73:1 rear-end gears
- SVE speedometer recalibration kit (installed by JBA Racing in San Diego)
- Maximum Motorsports bump-steer kit
- Maximum Motorsports front anti-roll bar and bushings
- Maximum Motorsports rear upper control arms
- Maximum Motorsports heavy-duty rear lower control arms
- JBA titanium shorty headers
- Magnaflow mid-section with high-flow catalytic converters
- Magnaflow mufflers with stainless steel tips
- Battery relocated to trunk of vehicle
- Custom bracket for MSD ignition system installed by JBA Racing
- LMR center console with cupholders

Mechanical

The engine is a replacement engine purchased from a builder in North Carolina in the 90s. The engine is a 347 stroker with stock heads and upper intake that have been ported and polished while with the builder. The transmission is a 5-speed Borg Warner unit with a new clutch and new flywheel (balanced for 347 stroker engine).

Exterior

The Scarlet Red exterior is in good shape with no major imperfections. None of the paint is faded. There are scuffs along the bottom edge of some of the body panels, visible in the photos.

Interior

The interior is in very nice shape, with mostly original parts. The center console has been replaced with a new one that includes cupholders (original is included). The map light has been replaced as well. The shift handle and trim bezel have been replaced by a Hurst unit, and a Steeda TriAx shifter as well.

Also, you are correct, it will not pass CA smog as none of the smog equipment attached in the engine bay is connected. The EGR system is completely disconnected, and none of the lines are present. The smog pump is on the car, but is bypassed by a shorter serpentine belt.

Hello! Thanks for the question. Yes, the system works, but the A/C doesn't blow cold. I haven't had it diagnosed as it's not very hot here and I generally don't use it, but my guess is it needs to be recharged. The cruise control is inoperative, and I have not diagnosed that either. It was that way when I took possession of the car. No other mechanical issues to speak of. Everything mechanically has been addressed, and it runs fast and strong.

I see the plate is from Montana which makes sense since it probably can’t pass smog in CA? I see the A/C is still there, does everything work-leaks? Any mechanical issues even minor need to be addressed? Thanks
