The Most Desirable Corvette Ever?

The 1967 Corvette is considered the most-loved Corvette ever produced. The combination of classic C2 styling, along with an incredible array of powertrain and comfort options, makes it one of the most desirable Corvettes ever. Not bad for a car that was never supposed to be made!

Classic Car Overview

1989 Chevrolet Corvette GS80 When Dick Guldstrand introduced the GS80 series in 1986, the car was targeted specifically at Pro-Solo and autocross enthusiasts. He knew all about the needs of these groups, as he was a longtime provider of performance upgrades for the C3 and a direct supporter of a small team of racers from the Western Council of Corvette Clubs. Up to this point, Dick had basically been a tuner. But with the introduction of the GS80, he was venturing into the realm of small-volume manufacturing-tricky territory in both the business and regulatory contexts. For consignment one of only 25, (numbers vary from 19-25 total built), in the Guldstrand GS80s custom built. Very finely tuned suspension which replaces the finicky factory suspension. A Jim Jones TRACO engine, which was located next door to Guldstrand and was bored to 368ci with aluminum heads and EFI. Come on down!...to Classic Auto Mall where you can see some amazing finds, and an overload of eye candy classics including this rare nimble warship, aptly named the Corvette (Hey, look it up!). Exterior Appearing as a mild mannered everyday 1989 little red Corvette this car can literally be used all year as it comes with a body matching hardtop, and also sports an installed tan canvas convertible top. Either way you still see the hidden headlights, the black band which surrounds these year C4s, round taillights, quad exhausts, front quarter gills , and 17-inch turbine style wheels. This car presents as good in the finish front with just a few faults in the fiberglass and paint, but mostly looking great! Lest I forget the Grand Sport Badging is in cursive white font and has an 80 at the end. Interior Slipping inside the saddle brown high back buckets which are neatly cradled into black molded bucket tubs, these show nicely with a few folds from age but it is an overall nice patina. The dash is black and sports a heads-up display and a large panel which contains lots of warning lights which are dark until there is a problem. A center console races through the buckets and has a black panel near the dash housing the shift lever, mirror and window power toggles, and a cup holder. On the back is a saddle brown leather padded covered glovebox. The cabin is flooded with saddle brown matching to the seats carpeting which is all very clean. Noted is a black bordered tonneau covering for when the top is in the down position. Drivetrain A flip forward of the hood, and we feast our eyes on the now modified bored 368ci TRACO V8 with EFI topping the mill. This is a later version, so it has larger valves and aluminum heads. TRACO custom headers provide the exhale. On the back a ZF 6-speed manual transmission pushes power rearward to a 3.31 limited slip rear axle. As a finishing touch, each owners name was imprinted on the engine stamp pad. Undercarriage Nice and clean with no rust and just patina for the undercarriage fiberglass and metal. Cast aluminum is what the C4 suspension is made of, and power disc brakes are on all 4 corners. With the GS80 the car sits overall a bit lower, and the suspension has plenty of upgrades because that is what Guldstrand s thing was! A rare model with the GS80 designation and modifications, convertible and hardtop version, all buttoned up and ready to move into the 90s but not without first showing off its 1989 swagger and chutzpah!
