Classic Car Overview
A true survivor and time capsule this 1988 VW Scirocco 16V in Tornado Red (LY3D) is completely original and unmodified (less a stereo upgrade to a modern retro look head unit with Bluetooth). One owner for 37 years, always garage-kept and maintained by a professional mechanic. It's the final year of the 16V for the U.S. market and one of the few remaining in this honest, well-preserved condition. Only an estimated 150 Tornado Red 16Vs are remaining in US.
The factory paint still shows nicely overall with a few age-appropriate clear coat spots and normal wear for 37 years. The original interior is very clean seats, carpets, dash, and headliner all in great shape. The original floor mats are in excellent condition, and the factory carpet still presents beautifully. Included is a brand-new set of floor mats embroidered with Scirocco 16V a perfect finishing touch. Everything works as it should: power windows, mirrors, wipers, lights, and even the A/C. The original Teardrop wheels have brand new tires, and the car has just been professionally detailed.
Mileage is 225,000, but because its been so well cared for, youd never know it it drives tight, responsive, and smooth. Mechanically strong with excellent throttle response and compression. Recent maintenance includes spark plugs, timing belt, injector cleaning, air filter and oil change. Comes with the original owner's manual, window sticker, and full version maintenance manual a complete and rare paper trail; and even the original dealership rear emblem still proudly displayed an authentic nod to its heritage.
Smog: I'm currently in the process of getting the car smogged in California awaiting a CA CARB CC. If a buyer plans to register it out of state, we can bypass that step.
As a lifelong German car enthusiast, this is my fourth 16V, and they're getting harder to find unmodified and this clean. A perfect analog driver or collector piece ready for its next caretaker. Whether you wish to preserve an all-original survivor or use it as a strong foundation for a light refresh, this Scirocco is an excellent starting point for either path.
