Classic Car Overview

1988 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ73 For consignment a Turbo Diesel, high comfort optioned, greenhouse viewing 4x4 that is just as comfortable picking up the kids from soccer practice as it is in the wilds of trail blazing in Yellowstone or on some freewheeling wilderness camping on BLM lands. This example comes to our Hallowed Halls with 157,406 non verifiable miles on the odometer and is ready to take you nearly anywhere your heart desires. Exterior Charcoal Gray coats the body, and I might add in a beautiful metallic super glaze clear coat with just a few very minor faults throughout. This writer is not a big fan of the 80s square and rectangle design, but in this case it is really a plus adding large greenhouse glass for the back passengers, and plenty of panoramic viewing for front driver and passenger. Shiny chrome bumpers and the headlight on either side grille as well as the T O Y O T A badge in the center definitely add bling to the gray. Badging is all there, as are some touch textured coated rockers, all rust free. The vertical square back of the truck uses a 60/40 split double door for easy access to the gear as well as plenty of viewing glass. Wheels are also chromed, and have some machined slots as well as a black hub, and are wrapped in good condition 31x10.5R15LT deep tread tires. All black plastic is fade free and I see overall very nice condition for the exterior which leads me to believe that this was more of a soccer practice pickup-er than the 4x4 adventurer. Interior Toyota with its sights on the Range Rover market, has upped the ante for this interior which uses gray herringbone tweed cloth for chairs and door panel inserts. Bolsters and surrounding door panels use a gray vinyl, with some slight tears in the passenger door. Very clean thick pile gray carpeting floods the floors, and for the square and rectangle design dash we can see usage of gray and black molded vinyl and plastic with all controls in easy reach. On top of the dash center is a level indicator which is a neat graphic to see how steep the climb is. Currently the dash is adorned with a Bluetooth, MP3/CD/AM/FM stereo unit for listening pleasure. The headliner is a cream soft cloth and shows in nice condition unripped or unmarred and unstained. On to the drivetrain. Drivetrain A flip of the hood and we are greeted with a slightly corroded, (typical for aluminum cast parts), 3.4L I-4 cylinder Turbo Diesel. It is fed by EFI and there is a 5-speed manual transmission on the back with 3.90 gears on both front and rear differentials. A stock exhaust is on this truck and is like new. Undercarriage Up to the lift it shows slight wear but certainly no rust for the underside. Leaf sprung suspension gives you more of a truck ride, and I see power disc brakes up front and power drums for the rear. Drive-Ability The diesel fires right up and I chug off to the test track where I was presented with a nice ride, just a little stiff, but you will want that when on uneven surfaces. It has nice acceleration with the turbo, and provides plenty of power. I noticed the fuel gauge was nonfunctional but all other items worked as designed. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Here we have a fine example of the upper echelon of 4x4 motoring, in diesel style. The truck is well preserved from 1988, and will make a nice classic edition to any adventurers garage, looking good in front of the clubhouse or in the wilds of Utah. Here we go!
