Classic Car Overview

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys Arizona event, 24 January 2025.
Offered Without Reserve $150,000 - $200,000 USD

  • Exceptionally preserved example of Porsches iconic 930 Turbo
  • Retains numbers-matching engine as confirmed by Porsche COA
  • Subject of a multi-page spread in November 2011 issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car
  • Believed to retain its factory-applied finish of Guards Red over black leather trim
  • Twice awarded Second Place at Porsche Club of Americas Amelia Island Werks Reunion

The Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera introduced in 1974 was truly groundbreaking as the German automakers first true production supercar. Although immediately identifiable as a 911, the type 930, as it was internally designated, featured a 3.0-liter flat six-cylinder engine boasting a single turbocharger and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Weighing less than 2,700 pounds, the 930 could sprint to 60 mph in just over five seconds on its way to a top speed north of 150 mph. A more powerful 3.3-liter engine would debut in 1978 and push the performance envelope even higher.

Produced in December 1987, the 930 Turbo offered here is a remarkable example possessing high levels of both preservation and documentation, indicating a life of fastidious care. It left Zuffenhausen finished in Guards Red over black leather trim and equipped with a limited-slip differential, alarm system, electric sliding sunroof, power heated seats with lumbar support, a steering wheel with an elevated hub, and a Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 AM/FM cassette stereo.

After reaching American shores, the car was reportedly stored, essentially unused, in an Indiana warehouse for nearly two decades before being rescued in 2006 by an Arizona-based enthusiast who carefully recommissioned it as needed, then enjoyed it as intended. Still retaining what is believed to be its original factory Guards Red paint and black leather upholstery, this 911 Turbo was prominently featured in the November 2011 issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car, which devoted multiple pages to showcasing the cars exceptional level of preservation. Since entering the consignors care, the Turbo has earned 2nd place honors twice at Porsche Club of Americas prestigious Amelia Island Werks Reunion. Most importantly, it has been verified to retain its numbers-matching engine and is accompanied by a comprehensive binder detailing its extensive service history.

Beautifully presented in an ultimate specification, this 930 is highly compelling on many levels, checking all the right boxes for those seeking entry into the elite ranks of air-cooled 911 Turbo ownership.
