Few businesses are as brutally competitive as the automotive industry. Progress is so rapid, that a vehicle platform can become obsolete in only a few years. And today, it often costs $1 Billion to introduce a new vehicle platform. This makes the Jeep Grand Wagoneer all the more amazing as it began production in November 1962 with SJ as the body designation. It proved so popular and so right that people just kept buying them even when AMC attempted to replace it with a smaller but upscale XJ platform. It has become an American automotive icon and remained in production for an incredible 29-model years (1963-1991).

THIS CAR'S HISTORY & DETAILS

The current owners have enthusiastically maintained this beautiful classic. Perhaps most importantly, a Jasper-rebuilt 360cid V8 engine was installed just a bit more than 3000 miles ago (at 149,530 miles). The transmission has been serviced, and the power steering box was replaced. The result is an absolutely excellent driving experience. The body is quiet and strong, and it is hard to believe that this is really 36 years old. Overall, there is still a distinct new-like impression. But of course, no vehicle is perfect and the new owner should expect small cosmetic imperfections here and there are some nicks on the bodyside woodgrain are an example.

OPERATIONAL REPORT

This Grand Wagoneer will impress you immediately as a well-made and well-maintained classic. During the photoshoot we tested and found the following to be working: Exterior lighting, horn, wipers, washer, gauges, radio, lighter, power seats, and front power windows. The rear (side) and tailgate power windows go down, but need help coming up. The Air-Conditioner as is the case with most vehicles of this age is not working. The dome light is out, but map lights are working.

Could be considerable, as Grand Wagoneers of the original SJ generation continue to be admired and sought. Though they are enjoyed as intrinsically good vehicles, there is also an undeniable prestige factor in driving up to any fine restaurant or resort in one of these classics they will likely allow (and want) you to park right in front!
