1988 Ford Mustang LX V8 Coupe

1988 ASC McLaren Mustang Background, Information, and Features:
ASC McLaren Mustangs were available from Ford Dealers in model years 1987 thru 1990. A total of 1806 of these numbered cars were made during those four years. This is Car #1362 which is only 1 of 3 produced in Azure Blue with a blue top and two tone gray interior.

The car started at Ford as a fully loaded Mustang LX notchback with a 5.0 Liter High Output (HO), 225 HP motor. Standard gear box was 3.08:1; the #1362 car as 3.73:1 gears.
Ford shipped cars to American Sunroof Company (ASC) where the top was torched off from windshield header to the rear deck. The windshield was raked back a few degrees and the glass recurved to fit the new configuration. Then McLaren added underneath bracing from the A to B pillars and from the B to B pillars. This bracing boxes the entire floor pan. Struts were installed from the rear wheel housings into the trunk. This eliminates the possibilities of body flex under most road conditions. According to ASC, it was the strongest convertible they had ever assembled at that time. The new soft top assembly was installed which includes a hinged steel deck that flips up to allow access to the folding cambria cloth top. Two storage compartments were installed where the back seat was. Factory front seats were replaced with Recaro leather sport seats. The door panels were recovered and a custom console installed.
The factory paint was stripped and unique ASC Mclaren rear and front fascias were added. The car was repainted with custom Sikkens acrylic urethane paint in Azure Blue followed by clear coat process.

This car, #1362, is all original with the exception of the wheels. The factory 4 stud wheels have been replaced with stiffer 5 stud set from Lincoln.

The car is in excellent working condition and has been well maintained. The car has a total of 109k miles (~3k per year), but the current odometer says 33k. Original gauge cluster with 76k miles included
