Classic Car Overview

1987 Wolfsburg Edition Volkswagen Vanagon ONE OWNER
Purchased new from Long Beach Motors, this van has spent its entire life in Southern California. Originally as Moms soccer van and later when the kids grew up, as Dads fishing and camping van. Refurbished in the early 2000s it was repainted after a strip down, including window removal, with Porsche Amazon Green for a truly unique color. Porsche color codes were used to buy the paint.
Sporting a new engine from Go Westy some 25,000 miles ago, the van has a total mileage of 215,000. A 1000-watt converter powered by an Optima Marine battery allows for the use of most 120-volt power tools and appliances, including a microwave oven. Oversize front disc brakes from Go Westy provide sure stopping power and their 15 replacement wheels hug the road on like new Michelin tires cushioned by Monroe shocks.
Retractable rear seats fold down to make generous sleeping accommodations for two, and when deployed, a comfortable dining area on the built in collapsible table. Overhead storage racks provide a home for fishing rods and reels. Removal of the rear facing passenger seat (still available and included with purchase) allowed for a storage cabinet with cooking utensils and base for the microwave. Opening of the rear hatch reveals a base for a removable Coleman cooking station, comprised of the stove, a boat rocket launcher serving mounting base for a bait board and custom built red-oak table for the stove.
In addition, included with the purchase are numerous camping accessories such as a Coleman Generator, sleeping bags, tent, pop-up shade cover, cast iron pot, and All Clad frying pan. The original van window shades (never used) are provided.
Documentation of all work done since the van was purchased new has been retained and will go to the new owner along with a Volkswagen shop manual and notes made during repairs and installation of additional equipment.
This is the ideal van for a person who appreciates the attention to detail, care and maintenance required in owning the same vehicle for nearly 38 years and is willing to take over the responsibility. Known issues are the power locks- they have been disabled and must be used manually, because the system uses an old technology and replacement parts are difficult to find. The original parts are available for potential rebuild. Rear brakes need to be adjusted, the shoes are fairly new and should still be serviceable. Speedometer cable can be noisy until it warms up. Probably should be replaced. Drivers side mirror needs attention- mirror mount broke and has been jury rigged for use. Oh, and if you go near the Southern Border, you might find the van pulling in that direction. Dont worry about it. It might be trying to go back to the Mulege Camp grounds.
