VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

With the resounding success of the 911 SC, Porsches engineers were given the go-ahead to begin work on a new generation of the companys most famous model. However, as that car would not be ready until late 1989, the G-Series was given one final update in 1984. Called the Carrera 3.2, the new cars enlarged engine also received updated fuel injection and ignition controllers to raise output to 207hp in US-specification (in comparison to 180hp for the US-spec SC). Additionally, the larger engine brought more easily accessible torque, resulting in a somewhat more relaxed experience at low speeds. Of course, the rest of the car was also revised, with the interior bringing previously optional equipment such as air conditioning and power windows as standard equipment in the US.

Furthermore, 1984 brought the official availability of the M491 Turbo Look package (Supersport in the UK). Buyers who specified the package not only received the Turbos distinctive wide rear fenders and tea tray spoiler, but also the more powerful cars heavy-duty suspension, high-performance brakes, and wider wheels. Initially only offered on the coupe, the M491 package was made available for all three body styles in 1985. Today, these cars are known for their incredible rarity (only a relative handful were ordered with the M491 package) and remain some of the most desirable examples of the Carrera 3.2.

The incredible 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 'M491' Factory Turbo Look Cabriolet featured here is finished in classic and highly desirable Guards Red over a Cashmere (Beige) leather interior with a Black power convertible top. This investment-grade 911 is one of the rarest modern-day Porsches to be found, with only 16 produced for 1987, making this the perfect example to add to any premier collection. I personally believe the investment potential of this limited-production Porsche will grow beyond your imagination. Offered to the most sophisticated collector, investor, or enthusiast who understands and appreciates the investment potential of this iconic motorcar!
