Classic Car Overview

Offered for sale is this 1987 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4.0L in excellent original condition and equipped with a 4×4 drivetrain and manual transmission. This is a truly standout XJ, featuring a completely rust-free body and chassisnot a single speck of structural rust anywhere. Even the floorboards, which are notoriously prone to rust on XJ Cherokees, are exceptionally clean. One photo shows the interior removed with the bare floor exposed, and the condition is remarkable. The vehicle shows no signs of accident damage, and it is sold with a clean California title. Carfax report is clean and shows the car living in CA from 1993 with 77,207 miles.

The interior is exceptionally original and has just benefited from a full deep cleaning. Overall, it presents extremely well with only minor blemishes, with the drivers seat showing the most wear. There is a crack on the drivers armrest. There is also some sun fading and a piece missing from the top of the dashboard (see images). The Jeep retains its original radio, the clock works, and it includes the original rear trunk privacy cover, a great period-correct detail that is often missing.

The exterior paint presents well overall, showing honest patina consistent with age and use. There are several chips and scratches throughout the body, but remarkably there are no dents or dings, with the exception of one convex ding on the hood. The body remains straight and clean.

Mechanically, this Cherokee runs and drives very well, and it is extremely smooth on the highway. The manual transmission and clutch feel strong and healthy, and the 4WD system is operational. Even more impressive, the Jeep has absolutely no leaksnot a single oil leak, which is rare for an XJ.

This example has also received several highly desirable drivetrain upgrades, including a front differential swap to an HP30 (the strongest factory front axle option), an upgraded 8.25 rear end (strongest rear axle option), and a 231 transfer case, widely considered one of the most durable available.

Additional features and upgrades include:

Factory rear tire carrier
Factory fog lights with original Jeep covers
Front and rear recovery hooks
SFR polyurethane motor mounts
Heavy-duty universal joints installed on both ends of the rear driveshaft
4-hole injectors
The Jeep benefits from a replacement engine installed less than 200 miles ago, with the replacement engine having approximately 150,000 miles. During installation, a large amount of preventative service was completed, including new seals and sensors, as well as the following parts replaced:

Water pump
Thermostat
Power steering pump
Idler pulley
Alternator
O2 sensor
Knock sensor
Brake master cylinder
Clutch master and slave cylinders
New clutch
New radiator, hoses, and cap
Distributor
Spark plugs and wires
Battery
Freeze plugs
In addition, the front differential, rear differential, and transmission fluids were replaced using heavy-duty fluid.
Known Issues / Needs:

Turn signals are not currently working
Heater lines need to be routed from the engine to the bulkhead connections
Tires could be replaced
Overall, this is an exceptionally clean and rust-free manual 4×4 Cherokee Laredo with strong mechanical upgrades, fresh engine work, and an honest original presentation. A rare opportunity to own an XJ that is structurally excellent and ready to be enjoyed immediately while addressing a few minor finishing needs over time.
