Classic Car Overview

The 1987 Honda Accord marks the second year of the celebrated third-generation (3G) Accord, a vehicle widely praised for its exceptional reliability, crisp handling, and iconic pop-up headlights. Building heavily on Hondas engineering peak of the late 1980s, this model generation is famous for its mechanical longevity, with many clean examples surviving past 200,000 to 300,000 miles.
All North American 1987 Accords utilize a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, but the delivery of fuel changes dramatically by trim level:
- DX and LX trims: Equipped with a carbureted 2.0L engine. While dependable, the carburetor is married to an incredibly complex web of nearly 50 vacuum lines that can be difficult to troubleshoot if leaks develop over time.
- LXi Trim: Features Hondas advanced Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI), pushing power to 110 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque. This configuration provides smoother power delivery and bypasses the vacuum issues of the carbureted models.
- Suspension: The 3G Accord famously introduced a racing-inspired four-wheel double-wishbone suspension layout. This gave the car highly responsive, flat cornering while allowing for a lower, sleeker hood line.
