Classic Car Overview

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys Villa Erba event, 20 May 2023.
Offered Without Reserve

  • Part of The Black On Black Collection
  • An early Monodado variant with attractive centre-lock wheels
  • Finished in Nero over a Nero leather interior
  • Odometer reads just 4,464 miles

The Ferrari Testarossa caused a sensation when it was first launched in 1984, with dozens of orders being taken as it was revealed to the public at the Paris Motor Show. By 1987 the furore showed no sign of subsiding; indeed, that year marked the first time in the models history that annual production figures exceeded 1,000 units.

The 1987 model year also brought with it some subtle improvements to the design, including the introduction of passive seatbelts and repositioning of the odometer from the centre console to the speedometer. Testarossas built during this period also featured more attractive 16-inch Monodado centre-lock magnesium wheels, rather than the five-stud wheels introduced the following year.

Chassis 69039 is a striking example of the desirable Monodado variant, made doubly appealing by its contemporary colour combination. Ordered in Nero over Nero leather with matching carpets and dashboard, it was supplied via Lake Forest Sports Cars and delivered to its first owner on 16 April 1987. The car is believed to have remained in the United States, and picked up a Platinum Award at the Ferrari Club of North Americas 2015 meeting at Monterey. It later returned to Europe, with the service book indicating replacement of the timing belts in March 2020, prior to joining The Black On Black Collection in December of that year.

The Testarossa is accompanied by its owners books, a fitted luggage set, and toolkit, and at the time of cataloguing the odometer read just 4,464 miles. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/ve23.
