1987 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe
Coupe Car for sale in Dover AFB, Delaware 19901
Zee Whole Story...
With all the hoopla surrounding the new Camaro 1LE, let's look back at the original.
Classic Car Overview
IROC Z-28, T-Top Camaro, 5.7L 350 cubic inch engine mated to a 700R4 transmission (overdrive gives it great fuel mileage if you're able to stay out of the pedal). This is the first year they had the tuned port injection (one injector per cylinder) vs throttle body injection (one or two injectors on top of the intake manifold in same location as carb). This injection upgrade made the engine look really cool but was really changed in order to reduce lag time and improve immediate throttle response and horsepower. The IROC package has factory upgraded suspension and steering and is a sweet car to drive down a country road. I've owned this particular vehicle since 1996 and have taken it around the country during my 24 years in the Air Force. This is not a Delaware car and does not have the rust that the vehicles in the northeast have. This car has been babied and garage kept while I've owned it. I bought it with under 70,000 miles and rebuilt the engine at around 85,000 miles back in 2002. Obviously, the rebuild is solid. I spent over $800 in machine work at that time and replaced all the internal parts. I kept the original block and heads (numbers matching car). The block is bored .30 over and the heads were machined for performance. I installed a large Comp Cams camshaft that lopes very well at idle when warm. Also, this car has MSD ignition, headers, flowmaster exhaust, new front end (MOOG ball joints & performance MacPherson struts), new MOOG steering entirely, new fuel pump and sending unit, new mechanical oil pressure gauge, new power antenna, new good looking blue Good Year hose kit, new heater core, K & N air filters, and many other upgrades. She is a sweet ride and ready for someone else to enjoy. I would not be selling this car but we are moving to Alaska next year when I retire from the Air Force and this is not really an Alaskan vehicle. I'm open to reasonable offers but have also included comparable listings so you know what you can find as far as available 3rd Gen cars. You'll have a hard time finding one cleaner than this. It is not a show car but is a daily (fast car Friday or T-Top Tuesday) driver that turns heads without fail.
