Classic Car Overview

1987 Cadillac Brougham DElegance Originally used for a single horse drawn enclosed carriage for 2-4 people, the Brougham owes its name to British statesman, Henry Brougham. Cadillac first used the name in 1916 to designate an enclosed 5-7 passenger sedan body style. In the thirties, the name was given to a formal body style with open chauffeur compartment and enclosed rear quarters, metal roof and often razor-edged styling. For consignment a one owner family car in the form of a 1987 Cadillac Brougham DElegance. Bathed in blue and chrome looking good in its square and rectangle sharp edged design. The DElegance package includes extra amenities like button tufted leather seating, and rear seat reading lamps to name a few. Low mileage (65K confirmed to be original miles) and all is well. A paint respray and stored in a heated garage in Maine as it was used as a summer car only. Clean black vinyl top, and finely preserved interior with a 5.0 L V8, and you should go grab Jeeves and we will go for a spin through town. Exterior Bathed in a repaint of blue, straight steel panels with nicely molded gaps form to create this square and rectangle design exterior. Paint shows nicely and the spare on is excellent. Neoprene bumper fillers are looking good in front and rear behind the bumpers. Chrome remains nice as to all the exterior trimmings. This Brougham wore a cross-hatch grille in 1987 and 1988 which was an identical re-cast of the 1981 grille. Dual horizontal lined up headlights are on either side, a wide trimming is around the egg crate, and in an outward V format. These front trimmings are all in superior shape and condition. The black vinyl top appears well preserved with no rust underneath with nice fade free material with plenty of padding underneath. For the back of the car, vertically oriented taillights are within large styled chrome bezels and a long clean bumper is below. Shades of yore models for these taillights, nice Caddy crest badging, and some white accent pinstriping have this cruiser all buttoned up and looking overall very nice. Add some accenting wire chromed wheel covers all around and you too can be puttin on the ritz. A note to the photo showing the stainless steel rocker, the red you note on it is a reflection of the base of our lift, and not on the actual rocker! Interior As the chauffeur swings open the door for our entry, we are greeted with wide door panels that have plenty of padding under gray leather coverings. Chrome trimmings separate some of these panels, and for the armrest/door pull, wood appliqu and chrome mix to make the housing for the power windows, locks, seats and mirrors. Elegance in a script style type font is embroidered with these doors as well. Slipping inside we rest upon tufted and buttoned gray leather wide seating with a split back bench upfront, and a large bench with lots of legroom in the back. Seats are beautifully aged and show some very slight creasing of the leather but it definitely adds character because they are not perfect, just nicely aged. Plenty of wood appliqu for the dash front, particularly in front of the driver and passengers sides with the gauge cluster in front of the driver, and glovebox the passenger. A central main control panel is where the climate controls and radio (AM/FM/cassette) are. Gray carpeting, slightly soiled at the thresholds, floods the floors, and a gray headliner above has a few areas of bubbling and sags. Also, of note a string of warning lights and readouts stretch across the dash top right above the bottom of the windshield where it meets the dash top, all providing pertinent info for the driver whilst slipping along the Turnpike. Drivetrain Under the long hood is a 5.0 liter V8, in originals condition, with no corrosion and very little dirt even dust (god forbid!) to speak of. It is topped with a single 4-barrel carburetor and has a 200R4 transmission in 4-speed automatic configuration on the back. Consigner stated this transmission has been recently rebuilt. A 10-bolt 2.73 gear rear axle slides this long car smoothly down the road. Undercarriage A nicely preserved undercarriage with slight surface rust and solid frame construction is noted. As are independent coil springs upfront, and a 4 link with coil springs on the back. Power disc brakes are reserved for the front, and power drums for the rear. A Stainless Works Muffler system is on now. Looking good on the preservation front, underneath. Drive-Ability A quick starter, and off to the cruise test track for a drive. This car does so wonderfully, with smooth acceleration, bias free panic stopping, and good solid cornering. All comforts were working just fine, and with all the convenience options on this car that is a good thing. Even the cigarette lighter works! Fairly low miles, a square and rectangle classic, long, big body panels and an extra padded interior in gray leather, and you are in chauffeur driver heaven. Go ahead, live life a little.
