1986 Toyota Pickup 4x4 Deluxe
As far as I know I'm the third owner. The first held on to this truck till about 86k miles at which point it was sold to the Toyota dealer mechanic who maintained it for the client. He then sold it to me a couple years later in 2011. The truck was in excellent shape up until last year when I was out during an ice storm when and was forced to take evasive action to avoid a head on collision and consequently hit a concrete barrier at a 45 degree angle. I managed to pull the bumper out to see that the truck still drove well. I've received estimates of about 2-3k for bodywork repairs, The very front tip (6 inches) of the frame is bent a bit. I just got the truck registered and drive it regularly. Mileage will increase slightly as time passes. I estimate that about 5k miles /year on it just to keep it in shape. Aside from the cosmetic damage there are no major issues with it. It does not leak oil, drives fantastic (straight), and is very dependable. It mostly lived in S Cal so rust is minimal. I regularly sealed the entire undercarriage with a homemade blend of wax/mineral oil sealant that has worked fantastic over the years. It spend a few year in Seattle and weathered the climate pretty well. I recently did some bodywork on it repairing the rear wheel wells that are notorious for rust. I was looking into repairing the body damage last year but with the supply chain shortage that has turned into a long wait. I hesitate to sell this beauty as Ive wanted it since I was 12 when they first appeared. By luck I found this one and have taken extreme care of it since. The plan was to paint and restore / upgrade as time passed but life has taken twists and turns and now it seems best that it gets past on to someone with the time and wherewith-all to finish the task.
The engine is in great shape with zero leaks or issues. Runs fantastic. The plan was to use OEM parts where applicable till I could come up with a long term plan. Ill try to go through some of the work ive done from memory. Soon after purchase I installed a Skyjacker lift, front and rear (ABS/Warm bumpers). Wheels and tires were replaced. Installed rock sliders. A Hi-Lift jack mount was installed in the bed. D-rings were welded on the floor of the bed. The entire bed was sealed with a brush on bed liner. The interior upholstery was re-done somewhere around 2013 and still looks great not tears or major wear. Pela lights and a winch were installed on front bumper. Parts that have been replaced in last 10 years (w/OEM or better): Master / Slave brake cylinders, ignition coil, fuel pump, alternator, plug wires / cap / rotor, front brake rotors, rear taillight lenses, Marlin clutch, .... In 2013 I noticed some oil in water and performed a shortblock rebuild. At that time I replaced most of the valves, timing chain, piston rings, . Carb was rebuild and has run like a champ since. Most any rubber hose has been replaced (carb, water, vacuum, fuel, windshield washer, ) Gears are OEM btw and was considering re-gearing as part of the larger scope. Tires were purchased in 2021 and dont have many miles on them.
I spent lots of time under and in this truck taking care of every detail that I could to help it keep running at peak and it has not let me down. I took it on a few camping trips in S Cal and throughout the Olympic Peninsula with zero issues and lots of great memories. Constantly get compliments driving around town with and occasional fanatic stopping me to compare notes. I previously owned a 61 International Scout that was in big name Hollywood movie so I feel like I have decent experience / credential in taking care of beautiful old trucks. If your honestly looking for a truck like this you can imagine that pain Im going through just listing it here. Im in zero hurry to sell this truck and if I have to I will take it with me for another 10 years. At the same time everything must come to an end and if this is the time then so be it. I know if I had not gotten into the accident last year I could have listed it for a LOT more. Before I left WA a neighbor of mine sold his 86 that was in similar shape and I was a bit shocked that the got 44k for it. Like I said, I drive this regularly and will continue to enjoy it as often as possible. It drives great. I can drive it in Texas 100 degree weather with no concern for over-heating. Get's up to 70 mph with no issue ... just takes a little time.
I'll update this listing as time permits Please ask detailed questions if you contact me. Im seriously avoiding scams so make sure you do your best to get my attention. If you send a message with a phone number and the stock message of "I'm interested in this 1986 Toyota ...", I most likely will not reply. Dont take it personally.
