Classic Car Overview

1986 Mercedes Benz 560 SL

This car was originally purchased by Charlie Schuster in Independence, MO in late 1985. He owned the car until just about 3-4 years ago. He moved to FL several years ago and traded the car in at a specialty dealer just a few years ago and that is when the current owner bought the car and had it shipped up to CT.
It has 71,000 miles on the ticker and is in very good condition. It is Champagne metallic over Palomino leather interior, matching Champagne hard top and a brown soft top.
It was very well maintained by the first owner as evidenced in the dealer maintenance log and the 82 service records in the CarFax. When it came north to CT it had all the fluids changed, new tires and has the oil changed every year. Only 3000 miles have been added since coming to the new owner. He bought it for his wife because she had a hard time getting into their other car, this one was lower and much easier for her to get in. She didn't like the car (she felt she was sitting too low) and so it's only been driven sparingly in the last 3-4 years. It's now time to move the car on to a new home.

In 1986, luxury amenities were limited (compared to today), this Mercedes SL had most of them though. Power steering, 4 wheel, power disc brakes; power windows, power mirror, limited slip differential; big, powerful 5.6L V8 (producing nearly 240 HP and 290 lbft), leather seats, center locking mechanism, cruise control, intermittent wipers, fog lights, ABS, driver air bag, hard top AND a soft top that folds into a hard compartment under a hard boot cover and of course a nice Becker sound system. The previous iterations of the 107 series SL, 380 and 450 were very popular and Mercedes capitalized on that, producing the most popular version in the 560 SL.

Starting from front to back, top to bottom, the original Champagne paint is in beautiful condition, one chip visible where the tops latch in, there is also a touched up scratch on the hard boot where the hard top anchor must have slid at some point.

The soft top is in near perfect condition, the hard top the same.

Under hood everything is clean, no leaks and operates as it should. Starts easily, runs smooth and strong and drives smooth and comfortably. This is definitely a grand touring car, not really a sports car.

All the glass on the car is mint condition and the interior is a close second, with only some minor wear on the driver bolster. Everything electrical works as it should and the AC blows cold, heat blows hot.

The under side is also in great condition, no rust and a light under coat.

Out back, the rear bumper has some scuffing on it that would not polish out.

That and the scratch on the boot cover are this car's biggest foibles.

If this Mercedes Benz had 25K less miles, it would be a $50,000 car.

In it's current condition, the family is asking $37,500.
