Classic Car Overview

1986 Mercedes Benz 560SL Roadster For consignment, a 1986 Mercedes Benz 560SL roadster with a title verified 96,617 actual miles. Nearly 14,000 560SLs were produced in 1986 which stayed consistent through 87 and 88. Exterior The infamous three car configuration begins with the accessory hard top, painted Champagne to match the body, a bronze tinged silver that is as classy as its name. Car number two wears a canvas top with plastic rear window and the third iteration is everyones favorite, the top down convertible, a straight shouldered, well proportioned car that still exemplifies wealth and success, even as depreciation impacts price. The ribbed rocker panel is stylistically matched by the sculpted tail lights and front side markers, notably functional for keeping dirt from the recesses of the lights. A low flat hood looms long in front, capped by the tri-tipped star and horizontally barred grille, with the quad headlights backed by reflective plastic. Overall, this handsome cars paint and trim is in very nice condition with imperfections noted as a chip and some flaking paint in the rocker panel, a spider crack, and a black scuff on the hardtop. Interior Tobacco brown door panels maintain the earthy palette with smooth MB tex thats in fine condition. Contrasting creamy beige colors the MB tex bucket seats, robust and clean with substantial polished metal framing. In back, the beige package shelf shows some use, but is fully intact and its plush beige carpet continues to the front where its toe deep softness is covered by carpeted mats for occupants. Clean, efficient, and handsome is how we would describe the black steering wheel, instrument cluster, and center stack where an AM/FM/CD player is perched within the dark burlwood trim piece which waterfalls down to surround the shifter, here with some slight hazing of the wood and some light cracking to the veneer. Brown plastic matches the doors and is what makes up the dash material. Theres brown carpet in the trunk, and its nicer than the carpet we have in our house! Drivetrain Relatively clean conditions prevail under the hood where the bay houses the 5.6 liter SOHC V8 putting out 228 horsepower, fuel injected and put into motion via a 4-speed automatic transmission. In back, we have 2.47 gears in a limited slip axle. Undercarriage Were guessing our consignor avoided rain and most definitely snow in this car as the underside is rust free and otherwise driver quality. Some residual oil on the transmission pan and some typical road soot in a thin layer. The rest is clean. Independent coil spring suspension is front and rear along with power disc brakes. The dual exhaust flows through a stock style muffler that lets out two small tailpipes in back. Drive-Ability If youve read our descriptions, you know we like these cars. They are solid drivers, and they evoke confidence and comfort. This one is no different and the brown tones inside are relaxing. But dont fall asleep, because the 5.6 is a serious engine that accelerates nicely and the square bodied car handles very well. We note the heater/AC blower and clock are not working and the hardtop side retaining bolts are stripped and will not release, but all other functions afforded to the driver and occupant work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Call it handsome, call it pretty, call it whatever you want. But be sure to call us if this one piques your interest! Onlookers will still turn to look. The envious will still curse your success. The valet parking attendant will still smile as he takes the keys. Forty years after leaving the factory, this is still an impressive car, visually and functionally.
