The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.
Classic Car Overview
1986 Land Rover Defender D110 The first Land Rover had the steering wheel in the middle. It was modeled after WWII-era Jeeps, because the designer had used one on his farm in Wales. To keep things simple and more tractor-like, the designer just put the steering wheel in the middle. In doing so he also dodged the pesky nuisance of building two different versions of the car for left and right hand drive markets. For consignment a left hand drive gas fueled D110 Land Rover Defender which has undergone some restoration and is now a fine tough vehicle for off roading anywhere (literally) or just taking the kids to soccer practice. It has become the ultimate status symbol for the soccer mom set to show up in a Rover, and this one is definitely an attention getter, and has built in reliability with the upgrades Ive yet to tell you about... Exterior All new charcoal gray paint now covers excellently minded gaps and straight steel. All this bodywork is squared off and has black accenting throughout. The 4 door version of the model, it sports tinted glass, and a HD ladder style roof rack to perch yourself upon and photograph wildlife on the Serengeti Plains, or just put your stuff up there when you go on a long trek with the fam. Black tough bumpers adorn the front and rear as well as make up some side steps to assist the climb into the vehicle. 16 inch black snowflake pattern wheels are wrapped in LT265/65R16 all weather tires that also can dig through mud and sand, as well as water. All LED lighting is also seen. Interior Black leather with triangular stitched inserts in white thread, and smooth black bolster buckets are the first two rows. The second row has a middle jump seat sans headrest but in the same pattern. Tough rubber mats cover the waterproofed floors, and the door panels have the niceties of utilitarianism in black molded plastic which will wipe any smudges right off. For the dash a touch screen radio is now installed and has Apple CarPlay capabilities as well as XM radio, Navigation, and a back up camera screen. Also, front and rear A/C has been installed and hang below the dash. and in the rear cargo/seating area, which has 4 more buckets in the same pattern as the front rows only these seats are bolted to the sides leaving room in the center for their feet, or more cargo. Noted is a nice dark gray felted headliner and a custom upper console is now installed. Seating for 9 and plenty of room left over. Drivetrain Under the hood is the original to this truck, is a 3.5 Liter Rover V8. It sports dual 1-barrel Solex 175 CDSE carbs and a 4-speed manual transmission with a 4.217 rear axle ratio. All in used but clean condition. Undercarriage Too large for our lift, but we can use the high stance to inspect underneath, and we find clean rust free metal structurally sound floor pans and rockers, and plenty of heavy duty suspension parts, which make up a radius arm/coil sprung front suspension, and a 3 link with coil springs for the back. Power disc brakes are upfront, and power drums for the rear wheels. Drive-Ability All worked very nicely, with the new A/C, High tech sound system, navigation, big screen display, and snappy seating. Plenty of room for passengers and their cargo. A good cruiser and excellent climber. Grab your groover and head into the wilds of the country, cause this truck can definitely handle it. A nice restoration with some extras, beautiful paint, and big wheels, a soccer mom never looked so cool. Big mountains with rough trails and water everywhere... NBD!
