Classic Car Overview

1986 Ford Mustang GT Convertible For consignment, a 1986 Ford Mustang GT convertible with a title verified 46,069 actual miles. This garage kept example serves as a surviving touchstone to the fox bodys earliest performance efforts, desired then and increasingly desired now as they disappear from the landscape. Exterior A solid black stallion with features an abbreviated grille integrated into the fascia, flanked by dual headlights over a chin spoiler with fog lights. A wide charcoal stripe on the hoods center sets the GT apart as well, along with the 15-inch Ford 10-hole wheels, branded side body molding, and bevel cut dual exhaust out back. Its here where youll find a luggage rack on the decklid followed by distinct horizontal tail lights, iterations of which would hang around until 1993. The black canvas soft top is in nice condition and the plastic window is crisp and clear. The piece de resistance of course, is the now legendary 5.0 emblem on the front fenders, worn like a coveted badge of honor back in the day. Imperfections include rock chips up front, a scuff on the bumper, and oxidation of the wheels. Interior Typically 80s simple and sparse, the door panels present as a two tone design with Charcoal Gray leather over light gray carpet and black switchgear and other than the worn elastic on the map pockets, the doors present cleanly. Other than some wear marks and compression on the drivers seat, the Charcoal leather bucket seats are in great shape and the back seat is just about flawless. A few thumb controls on the steering wheel add a bit of luxury while the simple layout of the instrument panel, where exposed faux bolts on each gauge housing gives the car a bit of Tron meets Star Wars vibe, is classic 80s. An A/C panel is central and an updated Sony AM/FM/CD head unit hovers over a blueprint diagram of the car with warning lights along with a digital clock. We have a typical Ford shifter in the center console over light gray carpet and Mustang branded fitted mats. The trunk is finished in gray cloth coated panels and houses the external CD changer. Drivetrain A clean driver quality 5.0 liter V8 is under the hood, with 200 horsepower and a wild looking intake manifold that was the talk of the town at the time. The engine is fuel injected and backed by the AOD 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the Ford 8.8 in back with 3.27 gears and TracLoc. Undercarriage Well call this clean driver quality as well with the typical surface rust and residual oil on the pans, but otherwise unremarkable. The factory headers lead to dual exhaust still flowing through original mufflers and the stainless tips that protrude aggressively past the valance. Power brakes are here as well, with disc in front and drums in the rear while suspension is comprised of coils springs front and rear with a 4 link joining the mix in back. Drive-Ability Its like a trip back to high school where if you had one of these in the 80s, you were the rich kid. These were the hot cars and this one is like a time capsule. It does everything well, smooth idle, decent power, and capable handling. Its pure, simple, and analog and as a result, all items on this low mileage example continue to work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Early foxbodies, especially those equipped with the five liter, are hot in the market and its undoubtedly a result of us kids of the 80s growing up and missing those seemingly simple times when you could hang out at the pizza joint, Glenn with this primered 72 Torino that was jacked up and barely ran, and Greg with the shiny new GT his parents bought him after he made varsity. In the parking lot, we were equals. Good times, and this one brings it all back! 1FABP27M5GF223107 1-USA F-Ford Motor Company A-Passenger Car B-Manual Belts P27-Mustang GT Convertible M-5.0L V8 hp 5-Check Digit G-1986 F-Dearborn, MI Assy Plant 223107-Sequential Unit Number DOOR STICKER EXT PNT 1C-Black DSO 41-Chicago BODY 66B-Mustang GT Convertible VR A-Black Convertible Top INT TR-Leather Articulated Sport Seating, Charcoal/Gray TAPE 1-Dark Charcoal Stripes, Medium Charcoal Trunk Stripes R-AM/FM/Cassette AX E-Ford 8.8 3.27 TracLoc TR TPPCC-AOD 4 Speed Automatic Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (thats more than 8 acres!).
