Exterior
In pure 80s style, this Z is designed with two stage Summit White paint with accents that include silver cladding and expanded strobe type striping comprising four stripes of three colors, mirrored too in the Z28 emblems on the rocker cladding and rear fascia. Chevrolets tuned port injection is also advertised in these areas giving the car some additional red light street cred. Distinct hood vents also let challengers know this is no ordinary Camaro and black trimmed tail lights and headlight bezels are also characteristic. 15-inch five spoke wheels are just aggressive enough showing tires with letters out because thats how we rolled in 1986! Overall, the body and paint are in great shape with imperfection noted as some delamination in the black windshield border and flex cracks, scuffs, and chips in the front cladding.

Interior
Not unexpectedly, this heartbeat of America is red on the inside, starting with an opening of the doors lined in diagonally designed red velour over carpeted lowers, topped by black switchgear and door handles with some typical fading of the button graphics, otherwise presenting cleanly. Diagonal accenting continues on the cloth bucket seats, red with dark red piping and other than some wear on the side piping, appearing to be in great shape including the passenger seat and rear 2+2. A GT steering wheel replaces the original and fronts a black plastic instrument cluster housing the standard package. A crack in the dash pad and some general minor aging is noted as we look forward and that stays true on the center console where the shifter resides in a plastic faceplate behind an updated AM/FM/CD radio and basic climate panel. Bright red, plush carpet floods the floor and the rear cargo area nicely and the T-top bags are in place and clean.

Drivetrain
Upgraded pullies highlight the 305ci LB9 V8, here mated to a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the 10 bolt axle with 2.73 gears. The bay presents cleanly.

Undercarriage
Everything is buttoned up underneath which shows typical surface rust and oxidation along with a single spot of invasive rust on an inner rocker panel. The single exhaust makes its way without a catalytic converter to a FlowMaster muffler which emits two tailpipes for that extra sporty look while power disc brakes are now on all four wheels. Suspension includes coil springs front and rear with a torque arm joining the party out back.

Drive-Ability
TPI does its job and delivers fuel to the cylinders and this V8 comes to life without hesitation as we drop the 700R4 into Drive and hit the test loop. Decent power, straight tracking, and unsurprising good handling from the F-body are observed. We note the fog lights and cruise control are not working but all other functions operate as they should and its back to the mall for this 80s classic. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Consider yourself lucky if you had one of these in high school. While we were happy to drive any F-body, having a performance model over the base models was held in a bit more esteem. You were just a little bit cooler than anyone else. This is a clean example of an 86 Z28 and we wouldnt hesitate to use as grocery getter or show car, and just wait until you arrive at your 40 year high school reunion in this baby!
