If you're a fan of vintage Japanese cars, be sure to check out Nissan's online heritage site. There are tons of vintage Nissan pics and specs going all the way back to the 1920s. Each featured car or truck has relevant specs and a little "detail" tab that gives some background on that specific car.
The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.
Classic Car Overview
History of the limited production GSL-SE model: Until the arrival of the 1984 GSL-SE, all U.S.-market RX-7s had been powered by Mazda’s “12A” engine, a four-barrel-carbureted, 1.1-liter (70-cu. in.) twin-rotor unit that made 101 horsepower. The SE was the exclusive recipient of an electronic fuel-injected, 1.3-liter (80-cu.in.) six-port “13B” version that made 34 percent more power with 14 percent more displacement: translated into figures, that was 135 hp and 133 lb-ft of torque. Mated exclusively to a five-speed manual transmission, this 7,000-rpm redline rotary moved the 2,512-pound GSL-SE to 60 in a notably quicker 7.8 seconds, and on to 125 mph, according to Car and Driver magazine. The GSL-SE would return for 1985 virtually unchanged.
Features: Being the flagship model, the SE came with goodies not offered on lesser RX-7s. A buyer got the aforementioned larger engine; larger-diameter four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with a more powerful booster and master cylinder; a heavy-duty clutch; upgraded suspension components; and 205/60VR14 Pirelli P6 radials on machine-finished 5 1/2JJ x 14 alloy wheels with a different bolt pattern–the wheels being an inch larger than those fitted to S, GS, and GSL models. Carried over were the GSL’s standard limited-slip differential, air conditioning, cruise control, tilt/removable sunroof, stereo cassette with equalizer, and optional variable-assist power steering.
This particular SE was ordered with all the above standard equipment plus power steering and plush floor mats. The power antenna was removed at some point and replaced with a short, flexible mast.
