Given that the 21st century has seen a sort of return to the roots aspect for the Mustang, it was probably only a matter of time before the Boss 302 made a return. Over the last few years there's been steady and growing interest in the concept of a new-age Trans Am Special.
Jim Clarke led the charge with the creation of the 5.0 HO V8 for the Mustang in 1982 and was responsible for the continuous improvement of the 5.0 throughout the '80s. What Jim and his team accomplished is truly amazing.

1985 Mustang GT Convertible PACKAGE DEAL. NC car zero rust including underside. No winters, maybe seen rain 10 times. 2 engines; 2 trans; 2 rearends. All original parts removed, stored & included. Fun, FAST, extra clean. I have always run full synthetic oil & premium fuel since day 1. Black vinyl top is in excellent condition. xtra perf parts included. Interior excellent. original dash no cracks or issues. Window rubber only thing showing age. Body is ORIGINAL paint with some chips on lower doors & rockers. Only 2 minor issues is passenger side rocker has dent on underside is seen in picts and small amount of creasing in rubber endure type front bumper. I am the 3rd owner of this car and I have owned since 1989. Dealer told me first owner was a lady teacher, then his son owned the car. He sold shortly after to buy a truck as he was a fireman and all his friends were into trucks. This car has been stored for every winter since I have owned it. has seen very little rain. There were only roughly 5500 of these made, and by modern standards that is a relatively low production. I respected that from the day I bought it. These fox Mustangs are beginning to rise and will only appreciate from here. especially clean original examples like this one. Every original part removed, was boxed, and kept. including factory shocks & smog equip. To my knowledge, this was the last American muscle car to be equipped with a 4 barrel carb. This car has electronic ignition, but no computer. You can actually tune it old school. The original motor was pulled at 90K miles. It had zero issues at the time, I just wanted more power. I purchased a 331 short block from Fox Lake Performance from near Massilon OH. 9.5:1, Trick flow Alum heads, Trick Flow Roller Rockers and Cam, air gap intake & Holley 4160 carb. Fox Lake est. 350 HP as built. ($6K invested) Built pro T-5 5 speed with .80 5th gear. More like a performance track 5 speed, not full overdrive. Car pulls hard through 5th and beyond. OEM transmission included, excellent cond / no issues. Pulled with engine, supposedly not a good idea to handle higher HP and torque upgrades with a stock T-5. All new poly suspension bushings, shocks might have 10K on them. Tight car, no squeaks or rattles. Tires are good Firestone Firehawks with most of the tread remaining. Original 302 was gone through by professional engine builder. Crank re-polished, new bearings, etc; stronger rods & pistons, factory cam, etc. Engine builder said had no issues just suggested upgrading. Baked & repainted correct Ford Gray.(see picts), new stainless hardware. factory headers and air cleaner also in excellent cond. OEM engine & stand included in this package. I have all factory internals and all oem bolts bagged & tagged. Original OEM carb + correct date coded extra OEM Ford/ Holley carb rebuit by Pony carburettors of PA. Extra date coded OEM alum intake. Have OEM air cond, but not installed. Have OEM alternator and all other parts. Cruise control is hooked up and fully functioning on HP motor. Car has rebuilt 8.8 rear with new Traction Lok rear, 3:27 ratio. Extra 3.08:1 ring & pinion included. Factory 7.5 rear was removed and Traction Lok rebuilt. Ratios included for 7.5: 2.95:1 (stock) 3.45:1 3.73:1. All in EX shape. You get the best of both worlds, the additional fun & power of the 331 C I. with stronger trans & rear end with no worries, and all original parts to reinstall as this car gains age & value to return to factory original. Paint & body is VG considering its original. There are chips in the rockers, and on the A pillars and one or two very small nicks on front of hood.. Car has always been waxed so the chips never rusted. No rust. Even underside has almost zero rust (see picts). Trunk seams & wells and bottoms of doors free from any rust. Again, this car has never seen winter or salt and almost no rain. Interior is also VG+. Carpet is good and OEM, but could probably be replaced if show car desired.
