Classic Car Overview
When it comes to automotive royalty, few cars on earth can match the power and presence of a Ferrari. Created to be an updated version of the original car, this Pininfarina-designed 1985 Ferrari Mondial 3.0 QV delivers open-air driving at its finest. Fully repainted in its original and stunning Blu Chiaro Metallic, complete with a matching blue manual top, this car is guaranteed to stand out anywhere it goes. Even though it shows a shockingly low 29,150 actual miles on the odometer, this car has been meticulously maintained over that relatively short time. Its 30K service was completed at the 26K mark, and it recently received a new steering rack, clutch, fuse box, and AC compressor. Timing belts were replaced in 2022, along with freshly polished cams and a good compression report for all cylinders. It is clear there is plenty of worry-free life left in this Italian stallion.
Inside, we find classic Magnolia cream-colored Italian luxury, which was just redyed last fall. A center console that doubles as a control panel, separates a pair of plush bucket seats. A three-spoke steering wheel featuring the iconic Prancing Horse logo sits ahead of a 180-mph speedo and 10,000-RPM tach, front and center of the driver, making it very easy to click off that perfect 1-2 redline shift with that classic gated shifter, as you listen to the transversely mid-mounted V-8 wail behind your head. A quartet of auxiliary gauges is offset toward the center of the dashboard, while an upgraded Alpine AM/FM/AUX/CD head unit offers far more audio options than the unit it replaces. Power locks, mirrors, and windows, along with air conditioning, provide plenty of modern amenities, especially for a mid-1980s car.
Speaking of that motor, the QV update, beginning in 1982, upgraded the Mondial to a four-valve-per-cylinder (Quattrovalvole) naturally-aspirated 3.0-liter DOHC V-8 engine. When new, this electronically fuel-injected V-8 made an impressive 240-horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 188 pound-feet of torque at 5,500 rpm. That power is routed through a synchromesh five-speed manual transmission before being sent to the rear wheels, where 15.35-inch rims (390mm) await, shod in 240/55VR-390 rubber, ready to put that power to the tarmac with all the alacrity of an Italian sports car.
