1985 LT1 Powered Chevy El Camino

This El Camino was purchased by the current custodian's father roughly 6 years ago.

He saw it at a local car show and fell in love with the sleek black lines, lack of door handles and the rumble of the LT1 V8 under the hood.

He pestered the fellow that owned it for about a year before he sold it to him. That previous owner also had the car for about 6 years and he purchased, as is, from the person who did all the work, presumably the first owner. The work was done at Street and Performance in Mena, Arkansas. They unfortunately are no longer in business so we can't confirm what exactly they did to the engine. The word is that the LT1 came out of a crashed, low mileage 1995 Z-28, which would have produced about 275 HP and 325 lb ft of torque.

The car came to CT with just 55,000 miles and now has just over 59,000 miles. It was suggested the engine has less than that.

Dad passed away last year and now his son is selling the car.

Street and Performance added a functional cowl induction hood, dropped in the LT1, added a custom "dual" exhaust that drops two 2.5" pipes into a custom catalytic converter and then a 3" pipe exits the cat but quickly splits to 2 3" pipes that run through Flowmaster mufflers and then out the back in squared, black tips.

The engine is still attached to its numbers matching 4L60E 4 speed auto trans.

They also shaved and filled the door handles, replaced with key fob operated poppers. One isn't currently operating correctly but the son is working to have the fixed before the car is sold.

There is also a left front wheel well mounted cable pull to open the driver door if the electrics aren't working as they should.

The car was painted in the iconic Dale Earnhardt Intimidator Black and Silver, with a hint of red as a pinstripe between the 2 colors, all this over the original rust free southern body panels. The black paint is nearly flawless with only one scratch in the passenger door and a chip smaller than a pin head on the right fender. These can probably be hidden with the use of some black wax. The front bumper was also painted black. There is one section on the right hand rocker that has some "china" effect, not sure if that can be polished out but is not discernible unless kneeling at just the right angle.

A hard tonneau cover was added to the bed with locks and lift pistons. The bed was Rhino Lined and then painted a gloss black. A custom inner bed drain was installed to direct rain water off the front of the cover and down to the ground, water won't collect in the bed.

Chevy branded Keystone style wheels with Goodyear Wrangler SRA's in 225/70/15 tires, sit at the four corners, they are in great condition, hardly seeing any miles and always garaged but they are dated 2013. The wheels are showing some clear coat degradation.

Under the hood shines and one wouldn't be ashamed to raise it at shows.

The interior is in it's stock form with a grey velour split bench, drop down center arm rest, AC (needs an R12 recharge which the son is working on getting done), tilt wheel, cruise control, intermittent wipers, power windows, power locks, power steering, power brakes (disc in F and drums in R), left hand remote mirror, full gauge package and AM/FM/Cassette stereo.

The Z15 SS package is noted and shows the correct Super Sport dash plaque.

There is minor wear on the driver seat but hardly noticeable, the computer for the LT1 and 4L60E sit behind the driver seat, tucked into the space available behind the cloth cover, sharing space with the spare tire. All the lights work, gauges work, except the tach, as the LT1 computer doesn't like the 10 year old tach, the power windows operate as they should as do the power locks, cruise control, horn and wipers work too.

Under the car, the black paint is starting to show some minor corrosion in spots, no perforated rust at all. New shocks and springs are in place and the suspension is the F41 GM "sport suspension" package. The aforementioned dual exhaust and a G92 3.23-1 limited slip rear end, in a GM corporate 10 bolt axle housing finish off the undercarriage details.

Other options from the RPO sheet include - soft ray tinted glass, floor mats, halogen head lamps, aux lighting group, and HD battery.

A unique El Camino, with tons more power and ooomph than a standard SS El Camino, better looks with just a couple of minor issues.
