Classic Car Overview

1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham Hardtop For consignment, a 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham Hardtop with a title verified 107,011 actual miles. This is a two owner car that has a set of new Bilstein shocks, new tires, and new rear brakes. If your parents or grandparents had one, chances are you have fond memories of the Delta 88 and now have the rare chance to own a well cared for example. Exterior An upright grille, dual square headlights and the Landau vinyl top create a stately vehicle, mid level luxury in a conservative design for the middle class. With nearly 300,000 Delta 88 Royales built and sold in 1984, clearly the design struck a nerve with consumers. Its a car with large proportions and in the two door version, huge doors that stretch almost as long as the rear quarter, here in Frost Beige accented with a pinstripe along the shoulder line. Attractive tail lights serve as the bookends for a wide flat deck lid and reverse lights which are embedded in the latch panel. 15-inch Oldsmobile Super Stock II wheels add a touch of sportiness and are wrapped in 225/70R15s with an early 2024 date code. Coach lamps illuminate on the B-pillar and are a fantastic feature. Imperfections include the disintegrated plastic trim around the vinyl roof base and a single ding. Interior Keeping things in the brown family, the handsome door panels include mottled brown inserts with simulated wood trim, smooth dark brown panels over a carpeted kick panel and a deep chrome box that houses the door handle. Velour was the material of choice at the time and covers our split bench with biscuit tufting in the pillow top upper and button backed design on the lower. Some very slight wear on the entry point of the drivers seat is noted, but all others are in great condition and are also accented with faux burlwood trim. In fact as we face forward, that burlwood appears on the steering wheel and frames the entire dashboard around square components such as the speedometer, AM/FM radio, and A/C panel, all shared across the GM line at the time. Its all in fantastic condition, which is also how we would describe the plush brown carpet, the foam backed headliner, and the gray cloth lined trunk. Drivetrain The ubiquitous 307ci V8 is under the hood putting out a family friendly 140 horsepower and utilizing a 4-barrel carb to get gas. Behind it, the TH200 3-speed automatic which routes power down the driveshaft to the 10 bolt rear axle housing 2.41 gears. Power brakes are supplied on this luxury cruiser with discs up front and new rear drums in the rear. For its age, the engine bay presents cleanly. Undercarriage Fantastically clean for its age, theres the typical surface rust and residual oil on an otherwise blemish free underside. The new yellow Bilsteins shine bright on suspension that includes coil springs in front and a 4 link with coils in back. The single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler, then exits without fanfare through a steel pipe out back. Drive-Ability Ours was white on blue but this interior brings us right back to 1984 when for the first time, Dad veered from his normal Buick family car and bought a Delta 88. This car delivers the same smooth buttery ride we remember with adequate power and an interior you could spend long hours in without discomfort. This well sorted car scores 100 in the functionality test and is ready for adoption! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. The GM line was replete with two door, velour clad, landau topped, semi luxurious vehicles in the late 70s and 80s and this car represents a surviving testament to the popularity of the genre. Your family either had one or knew someone who did. Calling a 1984 a classic is a hard pill to swallow for some of us, but there simply are not that many Delta 88s around anymore, and who would love to see this example at a car show? 1G3AY37Y6EX367459 1-USA G-General Motors 3-Oldsmobile A-Manual Belts Y-Delta 88 Royale Brougham 37-2 Door Hardtop Coupe Y-307ci 4bbl V8 6-Check Digit E-1984 X-Fairfax, VA Assy Plant 367469-Sequential Unit Number Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (thats more than 8 acres!).
