  • Complete with books, tools, and jack
  • One of the finest 512 BBis extant

Ferrari charted an entirely new course with its Berlinetta Boxer. Gone was the curvaceous front-engined design that had been Ferraris signature for decades. The BB would change all that and chart a new future for Ferrari. The new-age design was angular, with a sharp nose that almost appeared to be a single line running from the front of the bumper to the top of the windshield. The roofline was brief, sloping rearward to a truncated tail. The Boxer was a lean, high-tech, mid-engined sports car, an ethos that Ferrari would carry on through the next two decades with their 288 GTO, F40, Testarossa, and beyond.

Rarity, of course, translates into collectability, and the 512 BBs from the final year of production, 1984, are particularly sought after, as Ferrari only produced approximately 144 cars in total. This 512 BBi is believed to be the fifth-to-last example built and was finished in the highly attractive all Rosso Corsa over beige leather and was imported by Charles Kilmer in California, who sold it to its second owner in 1985.

After passing through a series of owners, and being subject to a concours restoration, the BBi was acquired by Steve Mraovic of Paradise Valley, Arizona, in 2006. He would then show the 512 at the FCA Arizona Region Concours dElegance in 2007. Mr. Mraovic kept the Boxer through 2014 before it was sold to its former owner based in Los Angeles. In 2017 the BBi received a major engine-out service at Ferrari of Newport Beach, with the water pump being rebuilt and a new set of TRX tires fitted. The detailed history report on file outlines the ownership and sales history of the car and confirms the current odometer reading of approximately 18,850 km. Accompanying the BBi are service records, owners manuals, tool roll, and jack in its bag.

In 1991 this exact car was offered for sale for $265,000. Considering the appreciation of almost all other iconic Ferrari models, the Ferrari 512 BB is thought by many Ferraristi to be incredibly undervalued. This very special 512 BBi is sure to provide its new owner with sound investment return and, above all, great enjoyment, whether on display in ones collection or behind the wheel and rocketing down the open road.To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/am20.
