Dealer Disclosure
I strive to describe this vehicle accurately with detailed photos, but it is a used, classic vehicle sold as-is with no warranties. As I am not a professional mechanic, undetected issues may exist. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified expert is strongly recommended, and I'm happy to assist with this. If you're new to classic cars, please reach out. I have over 40 years of experience and am delighted to share insights.
Classic Car Overview
1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL (R107)
Signal Red, Serviced
1983 Mercedes-Benz 380SL for sale. Built in July of 1983 at Mercedes-Benzs Sindelfingen factory and finished new in Signal Red with a Palomino interior. This U.S.-specification example is a later build, benefiting from timing-chain improvements, more refined emissions and drivability tuning, and incremental suspension updates that make them smoother and tighter cars than early examples. This car includes its factory hardtop, a recently replaced timing chain, recent repair orders showing $4,500 in mechanical work, a clean Carfax report with no accidents or issues, and a clear, California title.
Power comes from the original 3.8-liter M116 V8, paired with the factory automatic transmission. The Carfax documents meaningful mechanical servicing over time, including timing chain, guides, and tensioner replacement, suspension work, transmission service, and air-conditioning maintenance. More recently, the car has received thoughtful attention addressing common R107 wear items: the steering coupler, both front tie rods, and the center/drag link were replaced and followed by a proper alignment. The front subframe bushings were renewed, transmission cooler hoses replaced, and the braking system flushed. A new battery has been installed, routine services performed, and the hood insulation pad replaced. The result is a car that starts easily, steers straight, and feels noticeably tighter and more composed than many 380SLs that have not been similarly sorted.
The exterior presents well in its factory color, Signal Red. Brightwork and trim show nicely, glass is in good condition, and the car retains its original 14-inch wheels. The undercarriage is notably clean and dry, with no evidence of rust. The car is equipped with Hankook 205/70 R14 tires, dated 5/19, with 85% tread remaining. The trunk is clean and complete with the spare tire and jack in place.
Inside, the cabin presents as an honest, driver-quality interior. The seats show wear consistent with age. The wood trim is in nice condition, the door panels and carpets present well, and the headliner is clean. All gauges are clear and functioning properly, switches operate as intended, and the car is fitted with an AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth, allowing modern connectivity while retaining a period-appropriate appearance. The factory air conditioning is in working order.
This is a nice, driver-quality R107 that has been thoughfully serviced and maintained and ready to enjoy. Be sure to check out all 300+ photos and the video at www.leftcoastclassics.com.
