Classic Car Overview
1983 Land Rover Series III 88" Marine Blue Overdrive Much Loved Example
Ive owned this Land Rover for around 8 years and have absolutely loved having it. It has all the character, charm and mechanical honesty youd expect from a Series Land Rover, and it always gets attention wherever it goes. The only reason Im selling is that Im now based in Texas and it simply isnt being driven enough.
This is a proper, usable classic Land Rover with a great look and plenty of personality.
Around 6 years ago, I had a number of key items replaced, including:
Starter motor
Suspension
Leaf springs
Exhaust
Rear seats
It also benefits from overdrive, which makes it much more enjoyable and usable on faster roads than a standard Series III. It has a CB radio and antenna fitted too, which suits the vehicle perfectly and adds to the period feel.
I havent used it for off-roading. It has only been driven on lanes and used lightly during my ownership.
As with any classic Land Rover of this age, there are a few things that would benefit from attention. Id rather be upfront so the next owner knows exactly where they stand. The main items are electrical rather than mechanical:
The fan switch has stopped working
The oil temperature gauge has stopped working
There is a small amount of rust underneath, as you would expect on a Series Land Rover of this age.
For the oil temperature issue, I fitted a simple racing thermometer into the block as a practical temporary solution. It works as a quick fix, but the gauge itself would ideally be sorted properly by the next owner.
The vehicle presents well and has been a joy to own and my daily driver for a number of years. It's been to the beaches of Normandy and all over the south coast of England. For someone who knows Series Land Rovers, the areas needing attention are straightforward and part of the normal ownership journey.
Reluctant sale, but it deserves to be with someone who will drive and enjoy it more than I currently can.
Viewings welcome. Happy to answer any sensible questions.
