Classic Car Overview

1983 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler For consignment, a 1983 version of the venerable Jeep CJ8 Scrambler. This comes to us with a rebuilt and fuel injected 258ci I-6, a new tub, a rebuilt transmission, transfer case and axle, a professionally restored and rust proof painted frame. Add in a new tub, some removable doors and roof for that wide open feel while bouncing through the trails and were nearly there. While youre on the trail youll be in the comfort of home with Vintage AC, Corbeau leather seats, but with all the rugged toughness that youve come to expect from a Jeep. NOTE: Due to varying emissions control devices being removed, please check with your state, county, local or provincial motor vehicle department to verify the ability to legally register this vehicle in your area. Exterior From its 6 vertical bar front end with the close round headlights on either side, to the round turn signal lights just below, it is iconic looking and reminiscent of the earlier versions which served our country during the wars. Just below is a custom issue black steel bumper with a Superwinch OX winch mounted atop to help pull you or others out of any sticky situation that may arise on the trail. Up top is the standard spring pin held hood with snappy light blue SCRAMBLER decals running rearward. It has flanking fenders in front with plastic guards to minimize the mud which may inevitably get in your face while trudging through the trails. All of the steel for the new tub is bathed in dark blue paint with some removable full doors, a roll bar and a black fiberglass top giving you the choice to stay protected or have the truck open to the elements, (thats the way I like it, UH HUH, UH HUH). Moving rearward we see a black tonneau covering the bed and with the tail gate opened we see a bed that appears to never have been used. Large 17-inch Method wheels in satin black are wrapped by 265/70R17 mud tires all around from 2019. A swing away aware tire hangs off of the rear and a heavy duty custom black bumper with a trailer hitch and towing D-rings are noted on the bottom. Interior These full-size but lightweight doors are covered in slightly soiled light blue vinyl and these have black pulls and chrome cranks within the vinyl field. Inside, clean high backed integrated headrest bucket seats are in front and right up against the rear of the cab. These leather seats, courtesy of Corbeau, have smooth black bolsters and some eye-catching and posterior comforting gray diamond pleating, all set off with red thread stitching. The floors have a coating of blue textured paint so it doesnt matter if it gets wet or muddy, just hose it off! Peering forward, a full metal jacket dark blue painted dash front is peppered with a black padded panel for a topper and a central black instrument panel in black plastic. Round gauges and some pulls are within this panel. The steering wheel is by Grant and has a red stitched black leather rim. A long arm shift lever reaches for the driver and is topped by a red stitched knob and to its right is a small level for the transfer case. Taking up residence under the dash are the controls and vents for the heater and AC and just below this are twin speakers to drown away your sorrows with some tunes....but who needs music when you can hear the call of the wild? Drivetrain Under the hood is a rebuilt and Holley Sniper electronic fuel injected 258ci I-6 cylinder and it presents nicely. Some red is on for the valve cover and cooling fan and this motif fits perfectly in the industrial black, blue and silver engine bay. Bolted to the back of the mill is a rebuilt Borg Warner T5 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to the AMC-20 rear axle. Should things get sticky or tough to climb, a simple pull of the Dana 300 transfer case lever to engage the Dana 30 front axle and youll soon leave your troubles behind. We note the final drive ratio is 2.73 gearing for the axles and both axles have been rebuilt. Undercarriage A professionally redone and rust proofed black frame greets us with this Jeep-up in the air. Some surface rust is visible on the areas of light rust proof application as well as on some of the suspension components. Otherwise the remainder of the underside is painted with black undercoating and remains structurally sound. We see re-arched leaf spring suspension on all 4 corners with new shocks with all new power disc brakes on front, and all new power drums for the rear. A glasspack style muffler with single piped exhaust sans catalytic converter is on underneath as well. Our consignor notes that new wheel bearings and driveshaft U-joints were recently installed and the fuel tank was relined for clean fuel delivery. Drive-Ability Windows down, AC blasting and my rump contoured into the supple Corbeau leather buckets left me feeling like a million bucks. So much so that I briefly considered consigning my gas sipper so I could join the local Jeep club and experience the trails of Southeast PA, but I digress. On our well hidden test track we experienced smooth acceleration and easy shifting allowing this 4x4 to be driven daily or just hit the trail and get away when the shit comes down. Open to the elements if you so choose, so you will be very accustomed to the outside weather when you arrive at your campsite. Grab your groover, mount the kayak and go exploring, climbing, camping and whatever else we do in the great outdoors. Lets get a little mud on the tires! 1JCCN88EXDT037962 1-USA J-Jeep C-MPV C-258ci I6 N-5 Speed Manual 88-CJ8 E-4150 GVWR X-Check Digit D-1983 T-Toledo, OH Assy Plant 037962-Sequential Unit Number
