1983 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Convertible
Convertible Car for sale in Farmington Hills, Michigan 48331
With all the hoopla surrounding the new Camaro 1LE, let's look back at the original.
The story of the ZL1 Camaro, fitted with that rarest of the rare, all-aluminum 427 big-block V-8, is one that has often been told: How only 69 were made, how they exploited the GM option-ordering system, and how they've become the Camaro guy's ultimate Camaro.
Classic Car Overview
This is one of a kind Third-Generation Camaro that is not just a car, but a piece of automotive history! In 1983 GM had not yet started making convertibles. Because of this, there were a few builders who would convert a hardtop to a convertible. Around the same time, Stephen Blake had purchased the Avanti Motor Corporation and want to build a convertible. Rather than start from scratch, Blake decided to use one of these builder's cars for research on how to make a convertible. This 1983 Camaro Z28 was converted to a convertible in June of 1983 by R. Stramam Company of Casa Mesa, California. At the time, it was considered by Stramam to be "the prettiest car we've built". If you look at an early 80's Avanti convertibles, you will see the similarity in the design. Most automotive companies will not sell their prototype vehicles; this is a rare chance to own such a collector's item. The original documents which support the history of the car have been kept.
The 1983 Camaro had a significant change in the Z28 engine lineup in April by an all-new 5.0 L L69 4 barrel 190 hp (142 kW) High-Output (HO) V8. This engine was only available with a manual transmission in 1983. Due to its late introduction, only 3,223 L69 V8s were sold for the 1983 model year.
The exterior color of this car is white with blue sport stripes and badges. The convertible top is dark blue, and the wheels are white cast aluminum. New BF Goodrich Radial T/As were installed in 2012. The interior is dark blue cloth bucket seats with a full console.
Original factory options include power steering, power windows, power brakes (front disc), power door locks, power driver's seat, power antenna, and remote trunk release. Other equipment includes A/C (needs charging), intermittent windshield wiper system, cruise control, tinted glass, comfort steering wheel, driver's side power seat, and AM/FM stereo-CD-MP3.
This car has only 21,184 actual miles on it! There are documents to support this milage. The car is never driven in the rain and is stored in a garage. Documentation includes build sheet (Upper left corner is missing) and window sticker.
