1983 Chevrolet C/K Truck 4x4 Regular Cab 1500
Rockwall, TX 75032
The Dodge Li'l Red Express set a standard on how to make a great performance truck. All Dodge Li'l Red Express trucks came from the factory painted in Bright Canyon Red in 1978 and Medium Canyon Red in 1979. Every Li'l Red Express was a regular cab Adventurer with a stepside bed.
Classic vintage Chevrolet pickup trucks are receiving growing interest among car enthusiasts. The most collectible muscle cars are numbers-matching survivors; the most sought-after vintage trucks are full custom builds.
Classic Car Overview
LS Swapped! 1983 Chevrolet C-10 to K20 Conversion. Silverado Package. PDL, PW, PS etc. This truck was built as a Resto-Mod. Meaning it’s period correct to look at. I wanted it to look as if someone bought it in 1983, and took it straight to an off-road shop to have it lifted and bigger wheels and tires put on it. The difference is it has an LS Powerplant with an overdrive trans so it drives like a later model truck.
Truck was originally 2 Wheel Drive. Converted to 4 Wheel Drive by putting body on a cut down LWB 4x4 frame. It is all original sheet metal to this truck other than the header panel in the bed. It was replaced since the old one was bent toward the cab after years of use.
Frame was power washed and painted semi-gloss black before the body went on.
New body mounts
4” Pro Comp Lift
Painted in 2015 with 2002 Trans Am Navy Blue Effect.
All new lights after paint. Headlights, turn signals, brake lights.
New Chrome body trim, wheel trim, grill, grill trim, head light buckets, etc.
Door handles and front bumper are original to the truck. I cleaned them up. Rear bumper is from a K5 blazer from the same time period.
Bed was sprayed with bed liner while at paint shop.
8 lug axles from a suburban, rear is a semi-floater. Front was completely rebuilt before being installed
It has a 5.3L LM7 from an ’01 Yukon under the hood. Pop the hood and it looks like a late model truck, except for the engine being painted Chevrolet orange. I wanted the engine to have a throwback look.
Engine has ZL1 Camaro exhaust manifolds (no cutting the frame to get manifolds to fit) and two Cats per side.
New fuel tank from a ’87 model with a ’96 model in tank fuel pump. I tried to use factory parts so it’s easier to find them later.
4L60e overdrive transmission from same Yukon
Has an NP208 transfer case with an advanced adapter tone ring for the VSS signal to the computer.
Computer is mounted to the fender.
Truck has an OBD2 port under the dash, so you can tune, and diagnose just like a late model truck.
Dash pad cover over original dash.
Original bench seat was recovered with a period correct velour.
New Carpet kit was installed.
Headliner was recovered.
All new rubbers: Windshield, back glass, door window channels, door weather stripping, even the quarter windows were completely rebuilt.
Things it Needs, aka “the bad”:
A/C. I have the compressor
Bolt extracted in front diff driveshaft yoke
2 Wheel studs need to be replaced. One is cross-threaded, the other I can’t get the lug nut to go on.
Air filter. Right now it just has the MAF on the intake tube.
Sun visors recovered and reinstalled. I have them
Radio and speakers
Power Windows work, but they are slow like most trucks of this age.
Flakey windshield wipers. But this truck doesn’t get driven in the rain, so it didn’t matter
Door panels are ok. I cleaned them up, but they are far from perfect. The chrome trim is covering a speaker hole left by a previous owner of the door panels.
Have new coolant overflow tank I haven’t installed yet.
Some of the chrome body trim tries to lift in the corners.
