Classic Car Overview
The GT package marked a massive styling update for the Fox Body, returning the Mustang to its muscle car roots. Available exclusively as a 3-door hatchback, the GT package featured an aerodynamic front air dam with integrated fog lamps, a body-colored grille, and a rear spoiler. The hood featured a functional forward-facing hood scoop. Extensive blackout trim was used along the window moldings, wipers, and mirrors. Available colors were limited to Black, Bright Red, Medium Red, and Silver Metallic.
The GT handling package included a stiffer front stabilizer bar, rear stabilizer bar, upgraded spring/bushing rates, specialized shock valving and standard power steering assist. The GT package also came with cast-aluminum wheels wrapped in P185/75R-14 steel-belted radial tires.
The cabin of the GT featured a driver-focused interior with a sporty 4-spoke steering wheel, blackout dash trim, and an optional center console with a graphic display warning module. Upgraded bucket seats were available.
Buyers of the 1982 Mustang GT were offered the choice of a five-speed manual or a 3 speed automatic. Choose the manual and you received the 5.0L H.O. However, if buyers opted for the automatic C4 transmission, they got the smaller 4.2L (255 cid) V8 a C4 automatic with a 3.08:1 rear axle ratio.
This particular 1982 Medium Red Mustang GT has the C4 automatic and came with the 4.2L 2-barrel V8. While the Mustang only has 63,000 miles and ran smoothly, I was not content with the stock 119 horsepower. I replaced the stock 4.2L V8 with an ATK crate 4-barrel 302 cu V8 putting out 300 horsepower and 366 foot pounds of torque. This new engine really brings the Mustang alive and provides the power even the stock 302 cu could not match.
Other period correct upgrades include 17 basket style wheels and tires and rear hatch louvers.
New driving lights replace the original Marchal lights (included), new springs and exhaust round out the upgrades. A custom drink holder is also included. The rest of the car is completely stock including the 8-track AM/FM stereo.

Condition:
* The Mustang has approximately 63,868 miles on it. These are accurate to the title.
* The new engine has just under 2200 miles on the it. The engine has had an oil and filter change this April. It has a small leak.
* Exhaust is stock exhaust manifold leading to dual exhaust piles with new quieter mufflers replacing the original Cherry Bombs.
* The Transmission is stock (C4 3-speed automatic). It has a small leak.
* The rear axle is stock, has posi-traction, a 3.08:1 ratio and has been serviced (fluid change).
* The suspension bushings are stock, however the coil springs have been replaced. No real squeaks or rattles.
* The brakes are disk front and drum rear. The master cylinder has been replaced. The brake fluid has been replaced and brakes bled. The rear drums have new wheel cylinders. The dial pads and drum shoes are in good shape.
This Mustang starts and drives like its 1982 and will take you right back to the eighties. Beautiful V8 exhaust rumble, strong acceleration, crisp handling. Cruising at 65-70 mph the tach is at about 2200 RPMs with the engine quiet enough to have a conversation with your passenger. This Mustang turns heads wherever it goes.
What attracted me to this Mustang is the great 4-eye Fox style and great shape of the car inside and out. No rust anywhere, straight panels and a complete and clean interior. It is time to move this Mustang along to a new home so I can make room in the stable for another Mustang. If you are looking for a fabulous four-eye Fox Body with the the Boss is Back attitude you have found your car.
