Classic Car Overview
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43 is an off-road legend. Being one of the more rare versions produced in the Land Cruiser series, finding one of these on the road today is few and far between. That doesn’t make the iconic body any less recognizable. FJ’s were born out of a demand for a military light utility vehicle and have grown into a reputation of a reliable truck that can stand the test of time. Some restoration in the original factory style helps this FJ43 retain its originality. This FJ does need some engine work and has been priced accordingly. The fusion of a timeless classic 4x4 and a new motor make this FJ one that will be enjoyed for years to come with seating for six.
This particular 1981 FJ43 underwent a body-off restoration in 2015 that included new paint, interior reupholstery in the factory style, and a rebuild of its 4.2-liter straight-six, which was rebuilt and resealed during the restoration. It comes equipped with new clutch for its 5-speed transmission as well as power steering, front disc brakes, a refreshed suspension which received new pads along with replacement of the shoes in the rear drums, and more. A new carburetor and starter were fitted along with fresh belts, spark plugs, and plug wires. Power is routed through a two-speed transfer case to front and rear differentials. Suspension and steering benefit from new ball joints, tie rods, heavy-duty Gabriel shocks, a steering stabilizer, new front leaf springs, and fresh bushings.
The body was stripped of its finish and metalwork included rust removal, patches welded into the door bottoms, and replacement of the front floor panels. It was then finished in single-stage yellow paint. All-steel panels are free of aluminum covers and undercoating. Factory gray-painted 16" steel wheels wear new period 7.5×16 off-road rubber, including on the matching rear-mounted spare. With some engine work, this FJ will be road-ready for the summer.
