VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

1981 Porsche 911SC - 3.0L 6-Cylinder - Lots of Original Documentation including Window Sticker - Guards Red over Tan - One of 3,120 produced - (If you happen to be viewing this vehicle on a website other than our main website, its possible that only some of our many photographs are presented due to website limitations. To be sure you access all the photographs, please go to our main website: Garage Kept Motors) The 911SCs are awesome sports cars, which retain Porsches successful early formula of a lightweight sports car, with a driver focused cabin, a taut suspension, and an efficient rear mounted engine. 911SCs were often overlooked in recent years as enthusiasts gravitated toward the air cooled Carreras first offered in 84. Sure, the Carreras had a slightly higher displacement but the 911SCs still have a great power to weight ratio, excellent handling, and of course the classic styling. This particular 911 SC is a highly documented and very well cared for car. According to the Original Window Sticker, the car was originally delivered in Ogden Utah to Mt. Ogden VW/Porsche, but has spent the last 15 years in the Southeastern portion of the country. The classic Guards Red exterior paint, which has been ceramic coated, hugs this 911s curves. Lights and lenses are in great condition, including the glass fog lights mounted low on the front end which are prone to cracking. This cars simple good looks are made even sweeter by the great condition of the exterior, and the option to take part of the roof off for open air motoring. Tan interior provides a nice contrast to the Guards Red exterior, and is a great pairing with that classic red. Think how many posters featured a Red Ferrari or Porsche 911 with tan interior during the late 80s.........more proof that Red and Tan is an awesome pairing. The interior is in great condition, and in addition to the lighter tan seats and carpeting, the dashboard and upper trim are finished in a darker brown. The familiar 911 dashboard features clear gauges, and correct buttons, knobs, and trim pieces. Engine output of the 911SCs gradually went up as the years went by after hitting showrooms in 78. As an 81, this 911SC came from the factory with 204 horsepower, with a 5-speed manual transmission handling gear selection. Looking through the folder of documentation, it is apparent that the car was very well cared for over its lifetime. Service records show that since its move to the southeast part of the country, a number of notable service tasks have been completed - A/C system service, a new fuel pump installed, a new alternator, new clutch/clutch cable, spark plugs, adjust valves, brake pads front and rear, and of course regular oil changes just to name a few. The car wears 16-inch Fuchs black-spoke staggered-width forged wheels which are in great condition, including the outer polished rims which are prone to pitting. Its engine bay is tidy. The undercarriage displays no signs of abuse; the front valance is free of damage, body sills show none of the damage common from improper jacking, and suspension components all appear original and undamaged. The car is a pleasure to take out on the road and runs strong. The handsome styling and color combination on this Targa demonstrates that the Germans knew how to create beautiful sporting automobiles. You dont have to own a Carrera to enjoy a rear engine, air cooled Porsche of this body style. A 911SC like this one is an awesome car that will put a smile on your face. Whether the next owner of this car is a driver or collector (or both, as is pretty common for Porsches), theyre sure to find this is a 911 offering many years, and many miles of joy ahead.
