The 1981 Chevrolet Corvette was part of the third-generation Corvette, commonly known as the C3, which was introduced for the 1968 model year and continued through 1982. The 1981 model year marked the final year of Corvette production at the St. Louis assembly plant before production was moved entirely to the new Bowling Green, Kentucky facility. Chevrolet continued to offer the Corvette with its distinctive fiberglass body, removable T-top roof panels, and independent suspension, while four-wheel disc brakes remained standard. The 1981 Corvette featured a 350 cubic inch V8 and was available with an automatic transmission, continuing the Corvettes reputation as one of Americas premier performance and grand touring sports cars.
