Survivor Classic Car Services Chicago is proud to present this very rare one of three prototype Buehrig Coupe! Gordon Buehrig was an automobile designer known for contributing in the design of some of the most visually appealing vehicles to light. In the mid-20s he was working for Packard and GM, later taking jobs with Duesenberg, becoming a chief design engineer at age 25, and Auburn at age 35 helping design the Boat Tail Speedster, then working with Cord designing the Model 810/812. Finally, he moved to Ford, retiring in 1965. After a long line of working for automotive companies, he decided to create this custom design built around a 1981 Chevrolet Corvette. The frame is lengthened approximately 14 inches, all the bony panels are replaced with hand-laid fiberglass, and the interior is reupholstered. This stunning design calls back to the years of the Cords, Auburns, and Duesenbergs from the 20s and 30s, where styling was the main point of a car, not an afterthought. This example was built for Richard Kughn. He met Buehrig through Classic auto restoration, a shop that he had owned. Richard and Gordon became good friends, leading to the gifting and dedication of this prototype in 1981.
The Buehrig has spent decades in a museum and it in fantastic shape inside, out, and underneath. The 350 cubic inch Chevy V8 fires up like a dream and is ready to run. With just under 3,600 miles on this beauty, its no surprise that it is so clean. The 3-speed automatic transmission floats through the gears. The luxury suspension floats down the road, soaking up the bumps and providing a cushy ride for its passengers. The T-tops can be stored in the rear, tucked away from potential damage and giving you plenty of sunshine and wind in your hair! A new set of Vogue white wall tires were recently fitted. additionally, a plethora of maintenance was done bringing this custom classic up to snuff, with receipts nearing the $20,000 mark. The steering was upgraded from a standard gear box to a rack & pinion, making this classic drive more like a modern ride. you are all but guaranteed to be the only one at any car show with a Buehrig, and since the other two prototypes are a 70 and 80 model year, this really is a one of one build!
