VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

1980 MGB Limited Edition Well-Sorted, Rust-Free Driver with Provenance

One of approximately 6,700 Limited Edition MGBs produced for the final year of North American production. This well-maintained example has been carefully preserved and thoughtfully updated, offering an ideal balance of originality, reliability, and usability.

Finished in its original black paint with LE trim, this car was acquired five years ago from its original one-owner family. At that time, it was professionally inspected and sorted by a local MG specialist. Unlike many lower-mileage cars that have sat dormant, this MGB has been regularly exercised and maintained, and it shows in how it starts, runs, and drives.

The engine fires immediately, runs strong, and maintains excellent oil pressure with no leaks or oil consumption.

History & Condition

This is a solid, rust-free exampleprofessionally inspected and confirmed. Notably, the car received early-life aftermarket rustproofing (documented by original door sticker), which has helped preserve the structure over time. Rust-free MGBs are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly in this condition.

Highlights
Original 1.8L B-Series engine (~94,000 miles) strong runner
Original black paint with straight, clean body
New aluminum radiator (cooling system upgrade)
Electrical system sorted and functioning properly
New tires and brakes
Rebuilt carburetor
Mini-Lite style wheels (original LE wheels included)
Battery cutoff switch discreetly installed behind passenger seat
Chrome luggage rack and trim in excellent condition
Convertible top in good condition with clear rear window
Includes boot cover, tonneau cover, and car cover
Aftermarket radio

Interior

The interior presents very well for its age. The drivers seat has a couple of tears, currently covered with matching protective seat pads. Carpets are in good condition, the steering wheel is excellent, and the dash has a repaired crack typical of these cars.

Notes / Minor Items
Small fender crease above driver-side headlight
Speedometer needle fluctuates slightly
Overdrive not currently functioning (commonly a solenoid-related issue)
Column-mounted headlight switch needs replacement (part included)

Overall

This is not a project carit is a well-sorted, turn-key driver that shows nicely and draws attention wherever it goes. It represents one of the most enjoyable and accessible entries into classic British motoring.

The Limited Edition models carry added historical significance as the final chapter of MG production for North America, and this example combines originality, mechanical integrity, and usability in a way thats increasingly hard to find.

A true classic British roadster ready for spring and summer driving.

Clean title in hand.
