1979 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow

Here is a really fine and beautiful example of a Shadow II. Finished in Silver Sand metallic and a black Everflex top with coordinating black fine lines to the waist-rail and hubcap beauty rings. The interior has handsome beige-tan Connolly hides accented with black piping to carry through from the exterior combination. The Wilton wool carpets are in the reverse theme of black with edge-bound, seat matching beige-tan leather. The same black and beige-tan theme carries through to the boot.



This is an unmolested example that has been nicely maintained and presents in excellent condition. This was a west coast car for its first 25 years and then came to Illinois following, but never used in inclement weather and so it is a dry car that has had a garaged environment. As a result, it has been freed from the perils of harsh weather and is very clean underneath. It has always been well maintained and serviced and comes with its original manual.



The body on this Shadow II is very straight and the paint is shiny and lustrous. The car was repainted some 20 years ago and was a high quality job. When you look down the sides of the car, they are very straight and true. The paint presents absolutely beautifully with only the most minor little mark here and there from use. There is some very minor crazing in some spots but only mentioned out of clear disclosure. Certainly, it needs nothing other than a wax from time to time.



The interior is excellent. The tan Vaumol Luxan hides by Connolly are in amazingly wonderful condition with little wear nor fading and true to its Connolly characteristics. The leather really has been lovingly preserved and shows the correct amount of patina. For those of you who may not know, Vaumol Luxan grain was unique to Rolls-Royce. What you see is not only the tan colour leather but when these hides were tanned, the Luxan process involved hand-rubbing of a darker tone into the grain of the leather. This gives the leather a rich antique look so you can see the natural features right down to the individual pores. Somewhat like you see on a classical Chesterfield couch. The look is truly gorgeous. Some who do not know, might look at this and think the leather is worn or dirty. No! This is the way it is meant to be. If you like perfect one-colour leather, then I respectfully suggest you go buy yourself a new Lexus! And dare I add, if you cannot appreciate the attention to detail as seen with Vaumol Luxan grain by Connolly, that goes into a Rolls-Royce motor car, then perhaps a very original Rolls-Royce such is this one, is not for you. The burr walnut wood throughout the car is stunning. All the dash, door cappings and vanity mirrors were redone to factory standard by Madeira wood about 5 years ago. The process was done in accordance with the Rolls-Royce multi-layer lacquering technique which involves painstaking wet sanding and buffing by hand between all coats. The final finish on the wood throughout is simply stunning.

The head lining is in excellent condition without any unsightly grubbiness. The original carpets are in good condition. Likewise is the leather finishes to the dash and top-roll. The boot (trunk) carpet with the same black and beige-tan finish is in excellent condition. The car comes with a set of black lambswool moutons.



The car presents in all-original fashion but for a more modern Sony stereo system with multi-stack CD changer in the boot. The original push button Blaupunkt remains in position, which is a nice touch. The windows are after-market tinted and whereas it goes with the black Everflex top, we are not very much into this and think it would be better removed.
