Classic Car Overview

1979 Pontiac Firebird Formula $12,000

White · 8 Cylinder · 165,672 miles

My dad, who lives in South Jersey (where they don't use salt on the roads), bought this car new in 1979 and it has been in the family ever since. It originally had a 301, but it was a little tired so I put in a rebuilt 400 (bored .030 over with 6X heads, new pistons, bearings, valves, springs, cam, lifters, etc).  I also replaced the transmission with a remanufactured 200-R4 unit and a high stall converter to give it the performance I wanted - which is exhilarating! (it's a little cold-blooded when it first starts because of the cam).  I also installed a shaker hood because I think it looks better but still have the original Formula hood if that's what you prefer. Other upgrades include a posi rear with new ring and pinion, Headman ceramic coated headers with dual exhaust, 4 core aluminum radiator, new shocks, new gas tank, new front and rear sway bars and new master cylinder and brake lines.

The car was completely repainted (it was originally white) and has a new interior and restored dashboard. It was a factory AC car but since I planned to put in a Vintage Air system, the original system was not retained. Also needing attention is the speedometer gear - it turns out that it reads faster than it should. I didn't install the original radio (with cassette player!) because I wanted something more up to date, but I still have it. The car has a current NYS inspection and registration sticker so it can be legally driven.

I'm selling the car to fund a 68 Charger restoration that is costing way more than I expected.
