1979 MG MGB

Originally a California car, it came east in the early 2000's. Louise, Jerry, Joe and Nigel all owned her at one time all in CA. with Joe Wojik owning it the longest for nearly 20 years. It came east to CT in roughly 2005 to the owner Tony, who owned it until he sold it to the current owner in 2020. The funny thing is that the current owner wasn't even looking to buy an MGB. He was buying a 63 Chevy pick up from Tony and Tony made him an offer he couldn't refuse ... and not because the current owner wanted an MG (or because Tony had certain "connections") but because he wouldn't get the truck unless he bought the MG. He ended paying more for the MG than he did for the truck.

When he first got the MG, he didn't have a convertible, so he drove several times each season. The roads around his home are nice and twisty and even a quick 10 minute jaunt "around the block" was enjoyable. However, in the last couple of years he's purchased two Jeeps, a newer JK and an old CJ5 project which he's rebuilding, and that scratches the top down itch. The MG has sat idle aside from being moved around and maybe a quick blast down the road to get it up to temp. It's time to let it go and use the money for the CJ5.

Overall the car is in very solid condition. The floors are solid as are the castle rails, sills, inner sills and jack points. There is some rust starting to appear in the front of the dog legs and the rear of the lower right side fender. The car was painted by a previous owner out in Cali, so the paint is over 20 years old but still looks super bright and shiny. There are few nicks that show up when you look close, the two major issues are on the hood and the driver door/fender shut line. The last owner apparently accidentally backed his tractor into the hood and when he panicked and pulled away, it scarred it even more. The same owner also buggered up the door fender shut line, how exactly, we don't know but when you look close you can see where the paint has been touched up. The interior is in good condition, minor wear on the driver seat, some carpet wear, but the door cards look awesome. The vinyl top is like new.

Under the bonnet, the 1800 inline 4 starts easily and runs strong, producing 60lbs of oil pressure on cold start and remains over 30 at idle. It retains the original single Zenith carb, however, the air pump has been deactivated. Stock exhaust manifold leads down to straight pipe back to an old Ansa style muffler that has a small rust hole in it. That doesn't affect the sound. Running down the road it produces a nice British warble and is very fun to drive.

The last owner installed the wire wheels and hubs and they really make the car stand out.

The wire wheels help the red paint pop and from 10' this looks like an awesome little car. Only upon very close inspection does one see/notice the imperfections.

This car is meant to be driven and enjoyed, from both the driver's seat and the sidewalk. Really, who wouldn't smile seeing this little red Brit drive by?

The 4 cylinder, 4 speed and front disc brakes allow you to keep the rpms where the engine is happy and slow down when needed. The MGB is the car that Mazda copied when creating the Miata.

Truly turn key, one can start enjoying this one from day one. All the lights work, wipers work, gauges work, fan works, even the clock works. The horn does not work.

Of course, it is 47 years old and has 86,000 miles on the engine, so there will be up keep and general maintenance needed.

The car also comes with a set of Rostyle wheels, a tonneau cover and boot cover, some extra parts and a book of receipts dating back practically to day one.
