Classic Car Overview
CLASSIC 1979 MERCURY COUGAR XR-7 WITH 302-CID V8 AND FACTORY AIR (IT WORKS!)
LOCATION: Winder, GA (approximately 50 miles northeast from Atlanta, GA)
GENERAL HISTORY: Mercury's re-styling of the 1979 Cougar was the the most successful ever, and 580,245 were made in the 3-year run of this 4th Generation car. After more than 40-years, few remain - especially as nice as this example.

TEST DRIVE OPERATIONAL REPORT: This Cougar is an exceptionally smooth driving car that is a pleasure to drive. The power brakes & steering along with automatic transmission make it a delightful driver that you will enjoy both on country rides, or on the highways. External lighting, horn, directionals, lighter, wipers, washers, radio, and gauges were tested for the video and were all operational at that time. The clock - as is commonly the case with this vintage - is not working.
WORKING FACTORY AIR-CONDITIONING!
IMPERFECTIONS: Very few 1979 cars exist today and very few of those that did survive, look as good as this Mercury Cougar. But please understand that this is not a restored car - it is a maintained car. Therefore, you will see age/use patina throughout the car. Many collectors prize highly original cars such as this, and that is the target audience for a new owner for this steadily appreciating classic. Please be sure to examine ALL the images to see a sampling of the type of imperfections that the new owner should expect.
INVESTMENT POTENTIAL: as we age, many of us get nostalgic about the cars of our youth. There is always that favorite car that got away, or was out of reach decades ago but that now cruises in the country roads of your mind. Then there are those cars that are not only our personal favorites, but that are also the favorite of millions of classic car admirers. With many 1960s classics reaching higher than ever prices, the best cars of the 1970s are getting more attention every year. The 1979 Cougar was one of the most successful and desired cars of the 1970s, and is a very good bet for continued appreciation.
ODOMETER NOTE: The indicated 83,443 mileage is believed to be correct, but there are NO guarantees or warranties expressed or implied regarding original mileage due to the design limitations of odometers of this era.
PAYMENT DETAILS: CASH or Bank to Bank wire transfer ONLY. NO exceptions.
ABOUT ME: After retiring from 30 years of sales and marketing in a Global 100 company, I began buying and selling classic cars as a collector and for friends and clients. This classic belongs to a good friend and fellow classic car enthusiast.
IMPORTANT FINAL REMARKS and CONDITIONS OF SALE...the Buyer will receive a Bill of Sale and the clear/signed off Georgia Registration slip.
The state of Georgia does not require titles for vehicles built before 1986. Therefore, this 1979 Mercury Cougar was not issued a title. The Registration document is the legal document of ownership. Every state observes the DMV rules of all other states; therefore this vehicle may be insured, licensed, registered and driven in any state. Whether it is titled depends upon the DMV title rules of your state.
This Vehicle is sold strictly on a final and as-is basis without any warranties expressed or implied. Even the very best restored classics will require additional maintenance and service - often without warning. Therefore, please expect to continue - as the new owner and caretaker of this classic - to perform additional maintenance and repairs. We hope that you are able to enjoy the Cougar without the need for an immediate repair - but understand that this indeed could be found necessary. As seasoned collectors know, every time you start (or attempt to start) a collectible vehicle is a new experience...it could be a wonderful ride, or a new repair to undertake. That is the nature of the hobby, and this classic should not be purchased if you are not prepared for this reality. We have presented the car accurately to the best of our ability, but oversights are possible so we invite pre-purchase inspection for serious buyers. All sales are final.
