This SL is a survivor that is a lot of fun to drive. It combines the appointments of a grand touring coupe with the agility and unabashed fun of a convertible. It is a Florida car that has been stored in the garage and has been well maintained and runs great...everything works! The SL class has been a top luxury line of production cars for decades, producing ahead of the pack features, comforts, and performance. The R107 came on to the scene in 1972. With the debut of a V8 engine in this lineup, the 450SL was larger and produced a much more modern ride. The 450 part of the 450SL refers to the 4.5 liter SOHC V8, 225 horsepower engine (automatic transmission) living under the hood of these engines...it seems that the more you drive them the better they get! Arguably one of the best machines to ever come out of the Mercedes-Benz factories, it offers an iron block for awesome durability and careful assembly that ensures long life. You can buy this classic vehicle with confidence and unlike those low priced SLs that just need a little TLC it won't cost you thousand in replacement parts just to get it on the road. At the moment the R107 Mercedes-Benz SL roadsters are probably the smartest buy in the car hobby. You probably won't find many nicer than this 1979 450SL which has low mileage and excellent maintenance that separates the great SLs from the scary SLs. There's a lot of truth to the adage that a cheap Mercedes-Benz SL is the most expensive car you can buy. The truth is it's much smarter to pay more up front and get a car that's had an easy life and has been properly maintained. Showing at well under 76,000 original miles as of November 2017, this ultra-clean SL certainly meets the criteria for well maintained.  The fit and finish are typical Mercedes-Benz (that is excellent). It has the original Maple colored paint on the sleek bodywork and over its lifetime it looks like it has only seen rain a handful of times (practically no rust). The interior features Zebrano wood paneling; a type of wood found in West Africa, mainly in the Gabon and Cameroon regions. You're in luck with this SL because it carries the relatively rare leather interior seats. The Bamboo colored leather hides are in excellent shape and the seat cushions have been rebuilt (due to sagging over time) and seat warmers have been installed in the driver and passenger seat cushions and back rests for added comfort. The plush carpets are original and in good shape. The leather dash is starting to show signs of cracking; I have put a painted dash cover on for further protection. There is a dark brown soft convertible top in very good condition that adds some contrast as well as a removable hard top and also comes equipped with the original first aid kit. I have been the proud owner of this vehicle for over eight years. Why am I selling? My daily drive is a 2004 Mercedes-Benz and it is time for me to sell both cars so that I can purchase a new vehicle for myself. So, sadly the time has come for me to pass on the stewardship of this lovely convertible to the next owner. I sincerely hope that it will bring as much fun, enjoyment and pride to them as it has for me over the years.
