Classic Car Overview

1979 Chrysler 300 Hardtop For consignment, a 1979 Chrysler 300 hardtop with a title verified 17,102 actual miles with a numbers matching drivetrain and a known history as relayed by our consignor, the cars third owner. This special version of the Cordoba was only produced for one year and less than 4,000 were produced making it an uncommon anomaly. Our rare Mopar has always been garage kept and has also been kept original except for tires and other normal wear items. Exterior All of the 300s built in 1979 were Spinnaker White with a Canyon Red interior and thats how this car presents with the single stage white paint enhanced with red, white, and blue stripes that travel below the shoulder line breaking at the door and following the body lines of the truck and onto the decklid. These colors of course correspond with the tri colored 300 logo seen on the medallion in front, on the 15-inch aluminum wheel center caps, on the tail lamps, and just below the quarter window where 300 is expressed on the glass in the colonnade-like rear half. Other noteworthy features in profile include the three finned fender louvers on front, body colored sport mirrors, and wide, flush front side markers. Imperfections include a linear dent close to the rocker panel, touched up chips, and a ding or two. The tires on board are 225/60R15s with a mid-2022 date code. Interior And Canyon Red it is, beginning with the vinyl door panels, clean and pristine with a thin complement of simulated woodgrain trim and metal switchgear for the windows and of course, the 300 medallion. Turning our attention to the seats, also red, which was probably the color of Ricardo Montalbans face when he heard the original owner of the car did not want leather and the dealership replaced it with vinyl seats from a Plymouth Fury. And the front buckets and back bench are in excellent condition with cross stitched patterns and a handsome presentation. The courtesy lights under the rear windows dress things up a bit and a center console armrest rises high between the fronts. The leather wrapped 3 spoke steering wheel was unique to the 300, as was what the brochure calls engine turned applique on the dash and center console, (aka spun aluminum or machine turned, as in the Trans Ams). Its contrasted by black faced gauges and a black panel housing two smaller dials. The push button A/C panel is to the left of the column and to the right is where youll find the AM/FM radio. Other than the dash colors and black knob on the shifter, the interior is fully monochromatic including red carpet, color keyed seatbelts, and smooth headliner above. Drivetrain Under the big hood is the original, clean, and numbers matching 360ci V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor and rated at 195 horsepower, (remember, 1979!). Its mated to the numbers matching A727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic which sends power to the 9 inch rear with 3.23 gears and SureGrip, and thats not a denture paste! Power brakes are provided with discs in front and drums in the rear. Undercarriage Also clean underneath with age patina and some surface rust along with some oil on the pan. Dual exhaust were provided to the 300 and run through newer stock style mufflers before exiting out back, just peeking from under the chrome bumper. Torsion bar suspension is up front and leaf springs in the back. Drive-Ability The 360, having seen only 17,000 miles, started eagerly and we used the sporty shifter in the console to put the car into gear and send it to the loop. The car provides plenty of punch and at the same time, a soft and comfortable ride. But your Cordova never sounded like this as the dual exhaust is here for engine breathing, not to be silenced for the sake of luxury! All functions on this well preserved car operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. When you hear 300 you probably either think of Leonidas fighting the Persians, or you think of the Rolls Royce inspired modern iteration from Chrysler. Or perhaps the legendary cars of the 50s and 60s. Heres an obscurity in the world of the 300s, a one year only creation from 1979 and they rarely come up for sale. Want to be a rolling trivia contest? Show up at the car show in this unusual offering from Chrysler. But first, you have to call the mall. You might even want to hop on da plane, da plane! and pick it up. If youre a car lover, then Classic Auto Mall is your, (landlocked), fantasy island!
