Classic Car Overview
1979 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe For consignment, a 1979 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe showing 30,046 miles, but the true miles are unknown. You wont lose this car in a lot filled with 79s because it has some custom features that make it a bit of stand out including side pipes and a vented hood. This car retains its numbers matching transmission. Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area. Exterior Classic White lacquer paint colors this car like a sleek Stormtrooper from another planet! Just like the Star Wars characters, this one is accented with black on the front bumper guards, the rear bumper guards, the T-tops, and of course, the tires. Those 225/70R15 meats surround 15 Luxor Wire wheels which will also help you identify your Corvette among other C3s and the knock offs wear a black Luxor cap. Chrome headers emerge from the underside and ride the rocker panels, giving way to the big chrome side pipes and their vented heat shields and out-turned tips. Fifteen vents are cut into each side of the power bulge on the hood while hidden headlights ahead help define the Corvette allure. Imperfections include some wavy paint and a chip on the hood, some chips on the nose, scratches, paint runs and painted over chips. Interior Black leather seats are covered by cloth covers bearing dragon embroidery and black door panels set the overall interior palette. The rim of the leather wrapped steering wheel shows some patina along with the column and it frames the gauges just ahead, speedometer and tachometer, in good condition. Five gauges reside in the center stack, one is missing a bolt, and is sandwiched by vents above, (one is missing a fin), and an AM/FM/CD radio below. Vent controls sit on the horizontal surface of the center console which overall shows patina, and houses the shifter. Makeshift plastic panels have been added to the side of the console and low pile black carpet covers the floor in the footwells and in the cargo area behind where it shows some fading and looseness. An external speaker box resides in this cargo area against the back wall. Drivetrain Outside of the chrome valve covers, the engine presents in driver quality condition and is a 350ci L48 V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor and rated at 195 horsepower. Behind it, its numbers matching TH350 3-speed automatic transmission which routes power to the rear axle with 3.36 gears and Positraction. Undercarriage Driver quality underneath as well with some surface rust, residual oil, and some grime on the power steering components. As mentioned, the exhaust consists of headers into side pipes with no catalytic converter onboard. Power disc brakes occupy all four wheels. Independent front suspension softened by coil springs while the rear has a multi link independent suspension with tubular axle drive shafts, transverse strut rods, torque control arms and a VPB mono transverse leaf spring. Drive-Ability The 350 starts with a mighty growl from the side pipes and the transmission shifts into gear easily. We do note a soft brake pedal so we temper our drive around the loop and fulfill our mission of checking operational items, and its apparent that theres some good power underfoot. As far as functionality, we note the tach, heater blower, horn and clock are not working but the remaining items on the checklist work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Its not the most pristine C3 in the world, nor the fastest Corvette to come out of Bowling Green, (or St. Louis, in this case). But theres no denying the potential fun of Americas sports car and this one presents a great opportunity to enter the classic world and the Corvette world at the same time. As we write this, Corvettes at Carlisle is getting underway, the biggest Vette party in the world. Heres your ticket into that large but exclusive club. 1Z8789S430284 1-Chevrolet Z-Corvette 87-Coupe 8-350ci L48 4bbl 195hp V8 9-1979 S-St. Louis, MO Assy Plant 430284-Sequential Unit Number TRIM TAG I06-April 6th TRIM 192-Black Leather PAINT 10L-Classic White
