The 1978 Subaru DL belongs to the first generation of the Subaru Leone. In the late 1970s US market, Subaru marketed its vehicles simply as The Subaru, using trim levels like DL (DeLux) and GL (Grand Lux) as the actual model names. - The vehicle package mounts the spare tire directly inside the engine compartment on top of the transmission case to maximize interior cabin space.
