Classic Car Overview

1978 International Scout II International Harvester started making trucks way back in 1907. After WWII the only 4 wheel style recreational vehicle was the Jeep and the publics reaction to this style of truck at the time was unknown. By the time the early 60s rolled around it was clear there was a market for these vehicles so International developed the Scout. The Scout was produced from 1961 to 1980 and was a precursor to the modern SUV and a direct competitor for Jeep. With its boxy look and off road capabilities it was clear these were trucks meant to handle more than just the road on a Sunday drive. They look incredibly tough and have developed quite the following over the years. With the announcement of a new modern International coming out in 2028 the vintage versions are likely to become even more popular and collectable. This 1978 Scout II is a very nicely done vehicle and is fresh with only 834 miles on the odometer. The build is all documented with receipts and is a unique combination of the rugged Scout design paired with modern mechanics and drivability. The paint/body were recently redone and it is painted in a nice Light Blue with a Black removable top. Pairing nicely with the top the front/rear bumpers, grill, headlight bezels and even some of the emblems have been Blacked out for a unique cohesive look. A lot of the lights have been converted to LEDs and various components like the mirrors and lenses have been replaced. It has a great stance and under all four corners are new Black Vision wheels with 33X12.5 BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A Baja Champion tires. As mentioned previously, this truck has that tough Scout exterior but takes it a step further with modern performance because under that hood is hiding a 5.3L motor that runs great. It has been fully rebuilt so has a long life ahead of it. To do the motor swap an Anything Scout LS kit was used as well as a Novak adapter to mate up the rebuilt 4L60E. Various new components were used during the build including Scoutcoproducts fuel lines, an American Autowire harness combined with a PSI harness, Lokar throttle cable, Walbro fuel pump, new lines, new sending unit, new pressure regulator, B&M shift cable, Race 10 intake manifold and new starter. They didnt skimp on the comfort features either with power brakes (all new brake hoses), power steering with a Borgeson steering joint, and even Vintage Air AC. Dont let those luxuries fool you though because it was built to take some serious driving with a custom driveshaft, Dana 20 transfer case and spud gear, plus it got a Yukon axle rebuild in front/back with 4:56 gears. The exhaust is all new and the truck sounds great. The interior has been totally redone with all new Black upholstery and is in excellent condition. From the new carpet to the headliner nothing was left unfinished. It received new high back bucket seats and a new rear bench seat with lap belts. Between the front seats is a nice custom console that provides cup holders a
