Classic Car Overview

19,427 original miles. Beautiful color combination. Loaded with options. Nicely documented. Excellent paint and interior, runs and drives very well. A cool 70s piece of muscle with documented low mileage and an awesome look!

By the late 1970s horsepower was tough to find, but the Z/28 managed to be entertaining to drive just the same. With a torquey small block under the hood, an awesome Disco-Era look, and a long list of options, it was still one of the hottest cars on the street. If you were looking to make an impression, the Camaro was your choice. Showing just 19,427 miles from new, this beautifully preserved 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 delivers the authentic 70s look and feel that tells you that things were going to be all right. Featuring laser-straight bodywork, bright, shiny code 24L Bright Blue Metallic paint, and the requisite Z/28 decals, this is still a great-looking car. With original paint, you know there are no problems hiding underneath and aside from a few signs of age on some of the decals, it looks like this F-body has lived an easy life. As with many cars of the period, the rubber bumpers are a slightly different color, both due to age and the fact that they were painted in a separate factory, but otherwise this car shows extremely well. There s excellent glass, the factory lenses remain clear and bright, and the overall fit and finish are exactly what you got in 1978 pretty good.

The black vinyl interior offers a great combination of sport and luxury, starting with high-back bucket seats that are just as supportive as they look. With so few miles, they remain firm and comfortable, and there s negligible wear anywhere inside the car. The steering wheel is ostensibly designed to emulate the string-wrapped wheels of the 1930s, and it s only moderately successful at pulling it off, but it frames a full set of instruments, including a proper tachometer. Other options include power windows and locks, factory A/C, tilt steering column, remote mirror, rear window defroster, and an AM/FM stereo radio. Carpets, door panels, dash pad, and headliner are in excellent condition, and there s a set of aftermarket floor mats to keep things looking tidy. The back seat offers twin mini-buckets, and the trunk is finished with the original mat, jack assembly, inflator bottle, and space-saver spare that have never been used.

The LM1 350 cubic inch V8 wasn t a 700-horsepower monster like we have today, but it s competent, torquey, and lots of fun in the vintage Camaro. It shows correct numbers and markings, including a CHC suffix code for a 1978 Camaro Z/28 with automatic transmission, and we believe it to be the car s original engine. Outfitted with a 4-barrel carburetor, it feels energetic on the road and makes great V8 sounds. It s finished in factory turquoise engine enamel with a big air cleaner up top, and most of the hardware is original, with only maintenance parts being replaced over the years. Power steering and power disc brakes were included with the Z/28 package, making this coupe exceedingly easy to drive, and with the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission, it s always ready to go. The undercarriage is quite clean with a light dusting of undercoating to seal it up, but it hides nothing and the floors, rockers, and frame are completely solid. We believe it even carries its original exhaust system with catalytic converter for just the right sound. 3.42 gears on a limited slip differential help make it feel punchy around town, and while the handling is capable, it s also comfortable to drive. Color-matched Z/28 wheels look great and carry a set of 235/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials with a lot of life left in them.

Documentation is extensive, including the original owner s manuals and pamphlets, a reproduction window sticker, and factory brochures. Other extras include aftermarket floor mats, the original spiral rear shocks, and some reproduction decals in case you want to replace the originals that are showing a bit of age.

We re seeing cars of the 1970s make big strides in the market as people who were there look to re-create an awesome time in our history. The Z/28 isn t necessarily about all-out speed, but attitude, something it delivers in spades. Beautifully preserved and ready to enjoy, this Camaro is special. Call today!
