1977 Pontiac Firebird

1977 Pontiac Trans Am "Smokey and the Bandit" The Trans Am package was offer as an upgraded trim level on Firebirds incorporating improved handling, suspension, performance as well as some exterior cosmetic changes. They were created from 1969 to 2002 on the F body platform shared with the Chevrolet Camaro. Despite its namesake the Trans Am was not initially used in the Trans Am Series as even their smallest motor exceeded limitations by the SCCA. Trans Am would go on to hold a special place in history when in 1977 an action comedy film known as Smokey and the Bandit was released. Director, Hal Needham, supposedly saw an advertisement for the upcoming Trans Am and decided it was destined to not only become The Bandit, Burt Reynolds, car but its entirely own character. This very cool 1977 is not only modeled after that famous T/A but was built on the Discovery Channel s Fast N Load series starring the Gas Monkey Crew. So it is both a car designed after a "movie car" that also starred in its own television series. Part of the build including a challenge to get Burt Reynolds himself to sign the car which they successfully achieved as the car wears his signature in Gold on the glovebox door. Since being completed the car has been very well maintained. It is painted in the famous Black and Gold "Smokey and the Bandit" colors but that didn t stop the Gas Monkey crew from giving it their own personal touch. It has been custom wrapped and wears custom Gas Monkey graphics and in lieu of the Firebird styling on the hood it has a custom Screaming Monkey logo thanks to 360 graphics. All of the body panels are in excellent condition and of course it has those classic T-Tops cleanly mounted in place. The car rides on 17 inch Year One "Snow Flake" wheels with Gold accents and Nitto NT555 Extreme tires. Wherever it goes this car draws attention. Everyone wants to take a picture with the "Smokey and the Bandit" tribute but then they realize not only is this a nice homage to the original but a television star in its own right. The car runs down the road great and is very responsive. It handles very well with a lot of modern upgrades. The motor is a freshly built 403 V8 that has all the power you could ask for. An added aluminum radiator with dual electric fans is in place to keep it running cool with no issues. It sounds great through dual exhaust with an H-pipe and Flowmaster mufflers that exit just before the rear axle. Paired with the motor is a 700 R4 automatic transmission with B&M lockup control that transfers power back to the 10 bolt rear with 3.73 gears. Coil over shocks have been added all around as well as a 4 link rear suspension and Ridetech tubular front control arms. It also has 4 wheel Wilwood power disc brakes and power steering so this vintage beauty can be driven comfortably wherever you take it. The interior has been entirely redone in Black and looks great.
